I see where you're coming from. In places like Jersey City, Hoboken, or even Paramus on a Saturday, the VQ is snappy but might not have all the grunt you expect and it likes to rev a little higher than you expect you need. On the other hand, merging onto the Parkway (as long as people understand the concept of an acceleration lane where many don't), cruising, or some twisty roads like North Haledon or around Pennington, it's quite nice to not have turbo lag and get to wind out the engine for maximum power (Navi Shift Control helps on winding roads since it predicts what gear you need based on map info and keeps you in the power band to throttle out of the turns). Not hating on the VQ at all; I find it has a great blend of power for my driving style and where I normally drive. A bad turbo setup can also make driving a chore. A family friend had a Volkswagen Eos with the turbo engine and she said that once the turbo spooled it wasn't predictable, and the non-linear response always made her nervous in traffic that she would rear end someone. Nissan's had plenty of experience with forced induction with the GTR so I have high expectations for the VR30 Q50.

On paper, the new 3.0T is a *Yawn* for me...just another "3.0T". The market is flooded with 3.0T's (although 'different' setups), like BMW, Audi, Cadillac, etc. Why couldn't they have done something different, like a 3.3T (10% bigger) or something along those lines?... This may seem petty, but I'm serious- they lost my vote on this.

The market is flooded with 2.0T's, 3.0T's, 4.0T's.... whats your point? That just shows you the 500cc cylinder size is perfection.

300HP and 400HP is plenty for this car. I am sure they left some considerable room in the engine. With just a full turbo-back exhaust and tune, this thing will easily gain 40-50 horses and the same in torque.

The car isnt even out yet and from what we know, the car is already overwhelmed with power, as almost every single magazine says the car goes sideways way too easily. It needs way better rubber. Infiniti loves giving us only 90% car.

I cant WAIT for the Q50 RS400 is released and tuners get their hands on it, because by the time I get my coupe one year from today, the mods will be ready

Yeah, I'm with you @chilibowl , I think there's a reason why the market is flooded with 3.0T's and it's because it's a really good size for cars in this segment with similar drivetrains and intentions. I'm really looking forward to seeing how it delivers.

First, it's not what you know...it's what you believe. Second, however anecdotal, I had more power in my Turbo'd G35, and didn't go sideways ever- let alone too easily.

Innovators do things differently. The 3.0T is not innovative in my opinion. I'm sorry this got your panties in a bunch, because you perceived me as dogging your future car...Hadn't said panties been bunched- you would've know "what's [my] point?" As it was very clear and simple. Infiniti made me yawn by creating a "new" 3.0T, and I would've liked something different. Not complicated, plenty rational, and right over your head..

I've never had much of anything negative to say about my Q50- it's a great car. And like you said, the new 3.0T is not even out yet...but, I stated my opinion here, however unpopular...because I truly don't gaf what fanboys I offend with my own opinion. With that said, it may be a great car, and if so- great for Infiniti, and great for you. Enjoy.

Well I really don't understand the point of a brand new motor. I guess I kind of understand the 2.0 but the G25 was a failure. The VQ has been tried and proven for 2 decades. I have owned several versions since 1997. My opinion keep the 3.7 refine it some more and do a Red Sport but just throw a couple turbos on the 3.7.

I see a lot of you guys aren't impressed with the 3.0t, my question is would Nissan really create a less powerful replacement for the 3.7

Default 3.7 vs 2016 3.0t 300hp

It's not that I'm not impressed but Nissan made 3.0tt with 300 horsepower with the 300zx in 1990. The 3.0t has less power than the 3.7. That doesn't make sense.

There are too many assumptions going on in this conversation. It just doesn't make sense to compare the 300hp 3.0T with the 3.7 the same way it doesn't make sense to compare the 400hp 3.0T with the 3.7.

The truth is, until we're driving these cars, testing them in real world situations, with comparable pricing information, and many other factors, I don't see a reason to put any energy in debating these new engines and their overall value. We just don't know right now.
