I don't get it, how can you claim an engine is not innovative merely from looking at it's displacement? There could be a 3.0T from Infiniti that's completely different from a 3.0T from Audi. That's like saying a 3.0T from 10 years ago is the same as the 3.0Ts of today; but they're not...

Displacement is far from the only thing that makes an engine innovative. This engine utilizes an immense amount of new technologies. Motorized valve control and the Turbine Speed Sensor to name a few.

And adding increasing displacement just for the sake of increasing displacement, really? There's a reason companies use 3.0L 6 cylinders and it's for the very reason chillibowl stated.

I'm not engine expert but I personally am always impressed when a manufacturer can figure out how to make more horsepower from a smaller engine. I looked at a Volvo XC90 late last year with a 4 cylinder, turbocharged and supercharged engine that produced over 300hp. Technologically, that sounds amazing to me. I actually took one for a drive and it was reasonably quick, especially when I punched it on the highway on ramp.

Given the U.S. government's changes in fuel economy standards and the proliferation of hybrid and electric vehicles, I think we'll continue to see engines get smaller and smaller with technological "tricks" to keep performance at least equivalent, if not better than current engines provide.

Opinions are meant to be challenged with...even more opinions. This is a forum and it is to be expected lol.

When you said "Why couldn't they have done something different, like a 3.3T (10% bigger) or something along those lines?" I had to weigh in on the conversation

**** AMG is capable of producing 355HP and 360ft-lb torque in a 2L turbo! My question is "why couldn't infiniti achieve 400HP with something 24% smaller!??!"

Well the 2.0t this year was outsourced to MB if I am not mistaken...so maybe down the road lol? Question I have is why Nissan/Infiniti outsourced the engine for the 2.0t to Mercedes Benz and not produce their own?

I'm kinda in the boat of no replacement for displacement but not everyone thinks like me (I kinda see plenty on here do). There are a ton of people though that will see any improvement in fuel economy and go with that engine. I remember reading about how having 500cc cylinders with equal bore and stroke strike the perfect balance for producing power and maximizing efficiency so that is why almost everyone is going that route. Coupling that with how everyone is using turbocharging (you're essentially making more power and increasing economy while using stuff that is normally just waste that comes out the tailpipe) and it kinda makes sense. The EU is getting more and more strict with regulations, and they are a big sales goal for Infiniti for them to take on the Germans. The VQ37 isn't offered in the Q50 in Europe (diesel, hybrid, or 2.0 only), so maybe this 3.0 can change that to give a cheaper route for V6 power. As for the CLA/GLA45 engine, you have to remember that they are low-volume, hand built, specially constructed (different internals) engines that are built for people who want that specific car (the exhaust note is awful IMO from what I've heard online). The normal 2.0 is made in droves since it's a mass-volume, global audience engine for more than one model and manufacturer.

Innovators do things differently. The 3.0T is not innovative in my opinion. I'm sorry this got your panties in a bunch, because you perceived me as dogging your future car...Hadn't said panties been bunched- you would've know "what's [my] point?" As it was very clear and simple. Infiniti made me yawn by creating a "new" 3.0T, and I would've liked something different. Not complicated, plenty rational, and right over your head..

I've never had much of anything negative to say about my Q50- it's a great car. And like you said, the new 3.0T is not even out yet...but, I stated my opinion here, however unpopular...because I truly don't gaf what fanboys I offend with my own opinion. With that said, it may be a great car, and if so- great for Infiniti, and great for you. Enjoy.
I had to re-read my post about 3 times to see where exactly I got my panties in a bunch. To me, it just seems you were already bleeding out of your vagina BEFORE you even read my post, and so since you ran out of tampons, you decided to bleed all over this forum.

First off, you go and mention Porsche's 3.8L as some sort of defense to your "being different" argument.

You must be fairly ridiculous to compare a company like Porsche to a company like Infiniti. That would be like comparing the size of your vagina, to the size of a flea's penis.

Secondly, no one cares about how much power your Turbo'd G35 made, as it is completely irrelevant to the discussion of a stock, factory production vehicle. My friends 2002 Honda Civic thats turbocharged makes 575HP. It would absolutely destroy your Turbo G35 and make you look like your standing still. Do you think anyone cares?

Thirdly, your argument to be "different" just for the sake of being "different" is pretty much retarded. Nissan engineers do this every single day for a living. They test and test and test for hundreds of hours. Their reasoning for a 3.0L VR30 and NOT a 3.8L VR38 comes from hundreds of hours of research. YOUR knowledge of engine building would be that flea's d1ck. THEIR knowledge of engine designing would be your vagina. They know whats best for a volume production vehicle by a LONG shot.
