Default Stillen Crank Pulley Upgrade

First question: Has anybody installed either the Standard Lightweight Crank Pulley, or the Underdrive Performance Lightweight Crank Pulley from Stillen? I’m wondering if there’s any noticeable performance improvement. For roughly $200 for the pulley and belt combo, neither one of these seem like a bad idea for a little extra horsepower.

My other question: What would be the pros & cons of the underdrive pulley vs. the OEM size pulley? ...I've never really done performance upgrades on any of my cars, other than installing K&N filters.

thanks!

You will notice some power gains from the Pulley upgrades. The Underdrive Pulley will get you the best gains because it free's up more power that is normally used to drive the accessories.

The main reasons to stick with the Standard Sized Light Weight Pulley are:
A) You are running a large aftermarket Stereo system that draws a lot of power.
B) If you are planning on going with a Supercharger later on (the underdrive will under power the supercharger if used).

I had installed the pulley set on my Z at the same time as an ATC lightweight flywheel and stage 2 clutch. I can't say as to what difference it may have made in terms of power because I didn't dyno it after, but the combo made the revs insane. It revved like a sport bike. I did go with the under drive version, and did run into a problem with the battery going dead (an Optima red top first, then a Diehard). I don't know if it was due to the pulley or an issue with the UTEC standalone unit, but it did stop when I went to the regular pulley.

You know, I had all this stuff on that Z, and for the money I spent, I would have seen far better gains on a supercharger. I am glad Stillen is developing these performance parts, however, if I go for more power, I am going for MORE POWER. After replacing the bathroom, kitchen, central air unit, and deck so as to avoiding being killed by Mrs Ten*K.

Is there any concerns with harmonics and crankshaft bearing wear due to the lighter or under drive crankshaft pulley. I am concerned about causing premature wear on the engine for minimal gains.

That shouldn't be an issue, the pulley is machine balanced. Actually, less rotational mass means less work for the engine. Less work means less wear.

Although I am hesitant to do a lot of modding, the pulley swap and the wheel spacers both make the most impact for the price.

As Ten*K said, there are no issues with these pulleys. We have had them on 350Z's, G35's, 370's, G37's, etc for years with no issues

At this point, I'm not planning on getting the supercharger (although that would be a lot of fun ) and I'll stick with the Bose system that came with the car.
So what you're saying is, the Underdrive Pulley should be fine without causing any problems.?

We have never seen any issues with any of our pulleys. If you only drive the car very short distances and not every day I might be a little concerned about the battery being fully charged.
