Hmm. This has got me thinking. Making what ever it cost to have them install it would be worth it for the warranty. Thing is I would only have like 2 year left on warranty. By the time a light goes out or something I am sure the warranty would be long gone.

Has anyone had problems with welcome lighting? Lights going/falling out etc.

Also is it true? if you walk up to the car the lights turn on with out pressing the key fob? or do you have to press the key fob? I am seeing mixed answers.

I also thought this was true, I know lexus has it on their cars. But unfortunately that was not the case here. Welcome lights only turn on when you unlock the car and I also noticed that the welcome lights don't turn on if the car is running.

Thats from my install done at the dealership

Well guys, it’s done.

This project is definitely not for the weak hearted. Took me longer than I expected. Mostly because I had no prior experience removing trim pieces from a car and didn’t want to break anything. Once I figured out the one side it was a lot easier. I found that the instructions did not always show you everything you needed to know. Removing trim parts was by far the hardest part for me. With my skill background the wiring was a walk in the park. Also I needed extra wire because the wires the lights come with do not seem to be long enough.
Check it out. Not a great pic but these things are sweet!!!!

Had a shop ask me where I got the lights today. I told him they were OEM. He was shocked :P.

Default Dealership install?

I really want to add the welcome lighting, but don't have the confidence (or comfort I won't damage the trim) myself. Has anybody ordered and had the dealership install them recently? I purchase my brand new Q50 in October and just scheduled my first oil change. Thinking about adding the welcome lights to the service order, but wondered what is considered a decent price for the lights and install.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There's a pretty good amount of work involved with the welcome light install. I think it cost me at least $300 but I also had the interior ambient lighting installed at the same time.

I had them installed at my dealer a few months back for i believe $300CAD (Parts and labor), cool little addition you'll like them for sure.
