This is all i can find on what is involved in the difference. Brakes, Wheels, tires, paddle shiftersare all painfully obvious the difference between the standard and the sport. but as far a suspension… what didthey do different on the “S”. Is it dampening, spring rate, maybe sway bar? Doesanyone know that would be able to explain to me what I bought?:nerd:
Stiffness. I think it is just different springs and maybe slight recalibration on the shocks. Also, all hybrids have the sport suspension, whether sport or premium.
Standard Front
Independent double-wishbone with coil springs over Dual Flow Path® shock absorbers, stabilizer bar Standard Rear
Independent, multi-link with coil springs over Dual Flow Path® shock absorbers, stabilizer bar
[*] Sport-tuned Front
Independent, double-wishbone with coil springs over double piston shock absorbers, stabilizer and anti-roll bar. Double piston shock absorbers provide high damping force at low frequency vibrations (flat ride) and low damping force at high frequency vibrations (smooth ride Sport-tuned Rear
Independent, multi-link with coil springs over double piston shock absorbers, stabilizer and anti-roll bar. Double piston shock absorbers provide high damping force at low frequency vibrations (flat ride) and low damping force at high frequency vibrations (smooth ride)
so, on to my next question. next on my car will be springs or coil overs.
with already having "better" shock absorbers. Would it be smarter to save the $1500 difrence between RSR Sporti and Down Sus Springs? well, i wouldnt be saving the $1500... cuz that would go into wheels
Not to resurrect a dead post... but has anyone tried replacing the Premium Shocks with the Sport Shocks... as a suspension upgrade... to tighten up the ride a bit, without going the full replacement of Sport shocks, springs and roll bars?
I'm thinking about getting a non-Sport premium AWD in about a year and probably just adding some custom mods. Yeah I know we have a bigger/badder Q50 coming up in 2016, but the 2015 Q50 premiums are gonna be dirt cheap a year from now.
From what I can tell, you'll be able to get a fully loaded 2015 Q50 non-Sport premium RWD or an AWD model with Deluxe Touring for well under $30k.
I have replaced the rear sway bar with Stillen Sway and installed Tanabe Strut Bar up front.
Stock Q50 AWD Premium felt like a marshmallow compared to Q50S Hybrid I drove prior to leasing my own Q50 AWD Premium.
Tanabe Strut Bar made enormous difference, the car felt much more on point and controlled.
Much less body roll and corner nose diving when taking hard corner turns. Sway Bar refined the rear and made it a bit stiffer,
I would say 60% difference made by Strut Bar and 40% by Stillen Sway Bar set on Stiffest Setting.
okay... I cracked under pressure... I ordered the Tanabe Strut Bar from Tunerz Store... hoping it would get here BEFORE we leave on vacation next Friday...
just got this...
You have a package coming.

SWEET!!!!
I can tell the wife it was all PrinterMeow's fault for pushing me over edge!!! (MAN DOWN!!! MAN DOWN!!!)
Hi guys, what kind of shock absorbers do you recommend to replace the original ones in a 2015, I am buying a used 2015 Q50 and the guy selling told me he would change the shock absorbers and the brake pads, any advice on best bang for the buck would be appreciated
Stock. If DDS. It's a high quality system that is on many high end cars.
Now springs.. different story. I am looking for them too. Not to realky lower it much just add 10% to the front and 5% to the rear.
Good link to a YouTube video that explains our DDS system. Long but very good: https://youtu.be/DWU-l8edaSk
No DDS here, I'm in a 2014 so I need to get shocks: and I don't need adjustable shocks or adjustable height so coil overs aren't what I'm looking for either. I've looked at Bilstein, the Monroe family of shocks, Koni, etc. No one lists shocks and struts for my year. Maybe their sites all assume a DDS setup.
Oh well, time to stop browser searching and make direct calls.
Bilstein<---- don't skimp. Put the best ones they make for your car. I have them on my truck. They made a HUGE difference. I put them on with under 1000 miles on the OEM shocks which suc% pond water.
I also put them in my Miata. Same thing, totally different car.
I think I put them on my chiped TDI along with better springs. Amazing car. It's still on the road at 18 years old.
Heh, the arguments on the other sites I belong to on Koni vs Bilstein have been such great entertainment for me over the years.
I am a Bilstein fan though and would love it if they had something for the Q50. I don't pull any results up though on their site search. I shot them a request for help ...we'll see
