Q50 Red Sport is the worst car I've ever owned-and I had a Range Rover!

Bought brand new, 2017 Red Sport Q50 Red Sport RWD

Been in the shop about a dozen times now. We got:

blown water pump
belt replacement
half a dozen InTouch problems
AC pulley replacement
belt tensioner replacement
B-pillar replacement when the fabric fell off
3 air cleaner ionizers (the EcoClean thing keeps breaking)

Now its down for another 2 weeks for a blown turbo! They "think" that's the problem, because the intercooler was full of oil.

The best part is my loaner car, a 2018 Q50 Luxe...has a weird engine noise, and the top InTouch nav screen is broken, flickers green and shuts off :|

that 8 year Infiniti extended warranty was a good purchase tho :D Buy the warranty!!

You certainly have had bad luck. I've had zero problems after 1 1/2 years of operation.

Now that's some bad luck man. The known/common issue there is the belt / AC alignment and I've seen and heard a handful of cases.

Mine is fine so far at 30k miles, nothing out of the ordinary. If I had anything to say (negatively), it's just the noise I hear is when the dealer-filled engine oil reaches ~4k miles. It isn't bad and I do oil changes in between so it doesn't really bother me. Oh and that faint creaking noise on the front left side when braking under 10mph. Wife doesn't hear it and thinks it's just my OCD kicking in.

OP sounds like a guy you wouldn’t want to have near you at the casino. Bad luck. Hopefully he finds a resolution and gets the Q fixed.

What were the symptoms leading to needing new air cleaner ionizers?

loud ticking noise coming from driver side vent, regardless of HVAC on or off

it took Infiniti tech line a while to figure it out. Apparently the little fan is down inside the passenger side air ducts, but, when the fan bearing goes bad and it starts ticking, the way it echoes through the HVAC system makes it sound like its on the driver side.

Three years, 41K miles and basically no problems. None that I didn't cause, anyway. I had one blown tire because I took turn 11 at Laguna Seca too far inside. And I got a CEL when I filled it with 100 octane race gas from empty. I do all the normal maintenance at the dealership and get things taken care of when I read about them or they tell me about them. I haven't lowered my car, I haven't tuned it, I haven't changed the exhaust. Just drive it.

You have the 3.7 or the VR?

Mine is bone stock too.

The turbo issue is a weird one. Now that I think about it, my MPG had dropped about 2 miles per gallon, and I always had black crap all over my muffler tips, but I thought it had something to do with the winter or something (I dont even drive this in bad weather, have an old truck for that).

The service manager here had a 2016 Red Sport too, and his turbo also went out on him. So when he saw the soot all over my muffler tips, he had the technician pull the intercooler and turbo. Lo and behold, there was oil in the intercooler. As a result, they are replacing that turbo. The water pump seems to be okay.

about 6 months ago when I was looking to replace my G37Xs I was lusting after a red sport. I definitely wanted the power upgrade. More than 50% of the Red Sports I looked at were 'factory buybacks' on the title and that worried me. After digging a little deeper I saw some recurring issues with the model and decided on the 3.7 sport instead. I dont think OP's experience is that unique it seems...

I have a 2017 RS. No problems so far, except twice the DAS pulled to the left (like an alignment issue) but self corrected shortly after.

Well, if soot on the exhaust is an indication of any problems, then I'm going to be in trouble. I've had soot on the exhaust tips from day one of owning the car at 71 miles. I'm at 8k now and still clean them off weekly. I've had that on about every car I've owned though, so I don't think that's really any indication.

Completely normal for this car to show carbon deposits on the exhaust tips. It's not an indication of a problem with the turbos.

Fiat lol.. sounds about right. Triumph if still around would be up there too. I had 2. Spitfire and a GT6. Guess how many universal joints in the GT6. & Joe Lucas = the prince of darkness.

Ok, I'm sure most of you people have heard this before;

Q: Why do the British drink warm beer?

A: Because they have Lucas refrigerators.

I have a red sport awd and didn’t run into these issues, knock on wood. Car has over 30k miles and no problems that I didn’t cause myself.
From my observations, it seems most issues are on rwd cars mostly ....is anyone having issues on awd model?
Sucks to have all this problems to the OP!

Sorry to hear the issues with RS. I bought a brand new 17 fully loaded RS. Now with 22k miles, fully tuned on ecutek, DP w/HFCs, z1 diff, ams hx, cbe and ZERO......zilch....issues. Loving my 443whp/525wtq. Change oil via dealer every 5k. My only issue...the dunflops which are long gone. IMHO...great car...but that's just from my experience.

Ya it's always a kick in the pant, my co-worker sold his shares at $3 and pretty much broke even only to have them bounce up. He was not pleased, I had a good laugh though because hes the head of finance. lol

When I had the thought "I should probably look into this bitcoin thing people are all on about" they were just under $1 per bitcoin.
My finger hovered over the mouse button. I thought about buying a hundred of them, thought some more, and then went to ebay and bought a watch instead.
And that is how an ordinary guy narrowly misses becoming a deep millionaire over a Bulova.

Same with Microsoft.. Gad if I bought when using MultiPlan in CPM on my DEC Rainbow 100 I be in a similar position. I also should have sold my DEC stock at $189..I ended up bailing at $46. Uggg.

So much talk at selling at $200 I held on. Huge mistake. Dropped fast. But I thought it was a correction and would go back up to $100. 20-20 hind sight.
I get my DEC "retirement" next year.
Not a lot, but at least it's still there. Worth the 15 years there. The first 10 years were fantastic. Then Ken Olsen left. Down hill from there. He was right people don't need a stand alone computer but access to a "server"(the internet). His vision was spot on. Way b4 his time.

I got an one time offer from International Paper about 3 years ago to buy out my retirement annuity for a lump sum. Since my IP pension annuity had no death benefit, I decided to take their offer and roll it into another annuity with a death benefit. I've deferred starting that annuity until I'm 70 allowing it to accumulate in value.

I owned some DEC stock a while back. Dumped it.

So was I. Bought Juniper stock also. I did later dump both back then but bought 650 shares of Cisco in October, 2017 and it is up 40%.
