it is an upgraded vehicle security system. The dealership I work at installs them on all of our new and CPO cars. It upgrades the factory system by adding impact sensors, a fuel shut off, and ignition disconnect. You can put it in valet mode (disable it) by holding down the button that's on it for 5 seconds while the vehicle is running. repeat this process to reactivate it.

The fluorides would deposit on the grass where the milk cows grazed and when consumed by the cows would cause health problems and their teeth would fall out over time.

Fairview Farms sued Reynolds Metals for over a million dollars worth of damages back in the late fifties and won. It was the largest civil suit penalty in Oregon at the time. Reynolds Metals decided to remedy any future lawsuits by simply buying the dairy.

Perhaps if the dairy stuck it out, they could have marketed their milk as a tooth decay inhibitor like today's fluoride toothpastes.
This reminds me of the book "Radium Girls" about the young women who painted the glow-in-the-dark paint on watch dials back when industry was stupid and arrogant.

2018 Iridium Blue, AWD, Q50 Red Sport w/ Sensory and ProACTIVE packages and an illuminated grille emblem that is no longer anything special as my neighbor's lowly Chevy truck has one too.

There was virtually no pollution control equipment (ie. electrostatic precipitators) in the fifties to remove particulate from the Reynolds Metals plant emissions nor did anyone give a hoot about it back then. It wasn't until 1970 when the Clean Air Act was amended for stationary sources and its subsequent amendments in 1977 and 1990 that industry was forced to improve air quality or risk being fined by the EPA (formed in 1970 also). Industry considered pollution control to be an expense that had little return and it took the enforcement capabilities of the EPA to force industry to spend money to reduce their emission of harmful gases and particulate. I dealt with PSD (Prevention of Significant Deterioration) permitting of the paper industry in the late 70's up to the late 90's and it was (and still is) a complicated morass of legislation to step through in order to achieve compliance with federal emission regulations. I'm glad to be done with that.

I hated being in environmental services. While I was the superintendent of environmental services at two different paper mills, I was considered to be the bad guy by the production departments. I was the one that was making life miserable for them by telling them what they could and couldn't do as far as air, water, solid and hazardous waste emissions. When I would tell a production department manager that they have to shut down their section of the plant to remedy a pollutant spill or repair a piece of pollution control equipment, I'd get a rather nasty, profanity-laced reply. Ultimately, they had to comply but I didn't make many friends while in that position.

The tables eventually turned and I moved on to various production management positions and finally a power plant manager. I ended up being the same manager with the nasty, profanity laced replies when the subsequent environmental superintendent came knocking on my office door telling me of a problem in my department.

Karma's a bitch.
