On my S3 I did upgrade my JB1 to a JB4 but I never touched touched the maps and stayed at default on both. I did connect the OBD but I cannot say that I noticed much of a difference. I do not want to bother with the OBD on my red sport but if simply upgrading to JB4 added noticeable smoothness in power delivery, I would probably go for it.
I can't attest if there's really a difference in smoothness between the two as I didn't had a JB1 first; this is just what I was explained by Terry at BMS so I decided to go with the JB4.
