Question How can I strip just the clear coat?

Hi guys, first time post so please bear with me.
I was cleaning my wheels and noticed that the clear coat around the rim is spotty. So I want to remove the clear coat and then compound/polish it afterwards like you can see in some parts of the photo.

My question is.. I bought aircraft remover base+clear coat and was wondering if it is safe to spray this over the entire wheel. Notice how the parts that are not shiny are grey and look machine painted.
Can I safely mask off everything I don't want the spray to touch or is it okay to spray the entire rim without it possibly eating away at the parts I don't want to touch. I assume the entire wheel is clear coated but I only want to remove the "chrome" parts around the perimeter and the parts that go into a "V" shape that is also "chrome"/"silver".

Thank you in advance!

I honestly wouldn't even be spraying that with your wheels still mounted to the rims, over-spray could easily start eating away at the tires side-wall or the brake lines behind the rotors.
If you have too spray take the wheels off and tape off all around the tire.

I'm definitely going to be taking the wheels off. But was concerned about the grey painted parts and if the spray will eat away at it.

I would just drop it off at a body shop and let them re coat it. That spray makes me nervous...

Taking the wheel off, masking them, then wet sanding with a super fine grit might be a better option.

If you're dead-set on DIY-ing this, don't take any chances or assume anything with that product.

My thought would be if it's strong enough to remove clear coat, it's strong enough to remove paint, or harm it in some way.

EDIT:
Read this: https://www.autobodytoolmart.com//kl...SABEgJrJfD_BwE

It WILL take the paint as well and you'll be left with a primered rim.
Which is fine if you're prepared to repaint them.

I'd have a wheel repair company do the work. It's not that expensive and you'll get a lot better job done on the wheels.

I'd just leave them as is and enjoy the freedom from worry that non-perfect wheels provide. Once you get them perfect you WILL curb one of them, guaranteed.

They're already curbed :P I returned the aircraft stripper and bought 2000 and 2500 grit sandpaper. Do you think i will be able to take the clearcoat off with wetsanding? If I go to a shop I'm just going to get them powder coated and don't want to do that atm
