Default New member looking at 2015 Q50S, what should I know ?

Hi all,

Glad I found this forum !

I currently own a 2013 Acura TL Elite and looking at trading in for a 2015 Q50S.

I have 2 models in sight, both Q50S 2015. One is 27k$ for 30800km no Tech package, the other is 26k$ 67000km with a Tech pack. CAD$ indeed.

What are the common issues I should be looking into ? I chose the 2015 for the 3.7 and was also looking at the IS350 F Sport but it’s much smaller, less equipped and more expensive. I am having vibration issues on my car and read on here that some Q50S have this issue as well, or am I wrong ?

My main concern ; long term reliability. I buy to keep. I wouldn’t be trading the TL if it wasn’t for the vibration. And, no German for that single reason.

Thanks in advance

I also bought mine to keep and intend to drive the wheels off of it.
Beyond a lower entry price, I also stuck with the 3.7 for simplicity and known long-term reliability.

It's a very solid car that's deficient in a couple areas.
If the car you choose is rolling on the original Dunlop A/S runflat tires, many will agree they are the worst tires ever and should be replaced ASAP.
The Infotainment and NAV systems are very dated, don't support new technology platforms and are somewhat wonky to use.
The early cars, mostly the '14's I believe, had issues with brake rotors warping and premature wear.
The only time I've heard vibration issues mentioned is on lowered AWD models.

My car did not come with the Tech pkg. and I do miss some of the features that are now standard on many lower priced cars.

I'm sure more owners will chime in and fill in any gaps I've left.

Are the S's you are looking at AWD or RWD?

Minor cosmetic doo-dads.

Both are AWD. I wouldn’t buy a RWD.

As for wonky infotainment, you haven’t seeen the TL’s !

Dated tech? The week after you buy a tech thing, it’s dated ...

First you can't get the RWD in Canada, for that money you can get a 16, 3t, nothing wrong with the 15, I found it very easy to work on my 14.

2017 Red Sport 400, Magen LDP, Custom Exhaust, JB1 at +3. Chrome Delete.

Yeah I know. I could get a 2016 for that money but I'm scared of the TT... I'm all for reliability and don't line turbos for that reason...

I haven't pulled the trigger yet... There's a guy selling his at 30k$ with 20k km... These are the only ones up for sale under 70k km right now... Sucks

Get a 3.0T. I've had both and I'd never go back to the 3.7. I haven't had any problems at all with my RS and there's no comparison when it comes to acceleration. Don't get me wrong, I really liked how my G37x pulled but after driving the RS...game over.

The 3.7 is bulletproof. If the power is enough for you, I'd be more comfortable with the 3.7. I can care less about tec or nav etc. So that's not a priority. I use my smartphone for nav anyway.

I wanted easy power from mods so went with the 3.0T Red Sport. Big brakes were important too. Oil cooler and dual water pumps.
MPG seems a tad better with my modified Q50 RS AWD than I had in my 3.7 G37IPL and was VERY happy with my G.

Somethings I liked better in my G37IPL.
The 2012 G37IPL with a STANDARD transmission IMHOis a better base platform. Lighter more nimble, a std, and with a LSD. Better sounding stereo, and a far superior exhaust system.

Underneath you could see better quality. The leather was better, and the backup camera was a LOT better.
It's cost me a lot to "IPL" my Q50, but it's 4000 lbs.

But I wanted AWD and 4 doors so I traded it in for my Q50.

If you want the ease of power mods get the 3.0T. IMHO the 3.7L is a fantastic motor.
I'm dropping another few grand to update my transmission at Level 10 in hopes I will get closer to quicker, more positive shifts. AND the ability to handle the power from the RS500/RS600 mods WHEN AND IF AMS offers them.
Maybe I should have just gotten a GTR instead.
I tell you the Ford GTG Mustang sure looks good. Best bang for the buck in a RWD V8. Maybe I should just stop putting more $ into my Q.
I'm rambling.

I bought a 15 Q50S with 13k miles in April for $28k.

As stated the 3.7 is bulletproof. 15 was the last year for it and 14s had some quirks so 15 was the sweet spot for me when I was looking at Q50's.

I'm not sold on the 3.0 reliability just yet. It's still new imo. I came from a G37, so I was familiar with the engine.

VR definitely has more potential and cheaper to get power out of, but thats not really why I bought a Q in the first place.

I was never a fan of first year production stuff, so I'd avoid 14, 16 if you were looking at VR's.

Oh yeah and the Dunlop RF's are crap tell the dealer you want different tires or you're not purchasing. Lol I learned the hard way. Now I'm stuck with them until it's time for new tires.

Yup. I'm with you on that.

I will have to check the tires as well ...

I have been looking at TSB's here : https://www.infiniti-techinfo.com/TS...px?tsbType=TSB

Is it me or there are lots of them ? Or is Infiniti a serious enough comany to just take action on lots of things ?

Any serious Technical Service Bulletins that should be done ? I know that the brakes (pins and all) should be...
