I previously leased a 2018 Red Sport but unfortunately was totaled. I have gathered all possible options for my future car but the Q50 still comes to #1 spot not only for the power and looks, but mainly the aggressive leases Infiniti can offer.
My question is, will the infotainment system be upgraded in 2020? I tried searching but found nothing. I'm ok with keeping everything else the way it is but that for me is the weakest link.
Infiniti has confirmed a new infotainment is set for release in 2021, most likely they meant model year but Infiniti had this to say about it last year. "The next-generation system will consist of a single, tablet-style screen that will continue to place a virtual boundary between the two groups of functions. "
Honestly I'd say check out a G70 or Stinger if you can find one and the lease prices are good.
Or the 4th Gen Lexus IS which is rumored to have an IS F returning. The Regular IS 350 Is supposed to have the same engine as the BMW 340 (Partnership). That engine puts out better numbers than the Red Sport.
The 2020 models will have the same design but larger screens, better resolution and hopefully CarPlay. When our Infiniti trainer came by a while back, the Signature models were projected to have CarPlay, hence not having Navigation, but that was not the case.
Hopefully they revamp the entire car with options for a panoramic roof. Sucks that the American models don't get the fold in mirrors either.
I love my Q, but it's boring to drive now. It would also be nice to change the color of the dash lighting depending on the driving mode too. A boy can just dream right?
This is from the Q60 forum from a supposed employee of Infiniti:
"I work for INFINITI yes all 2020 models will have both CarPlay and Android Auto. Our system is already built on an android platform." "You probably won’t see our first 2020 until late Summer. "
.......................
There was also information previously posted from an interview with Infiniti that said in "2019"... so this would suggest 2020 models.. would get an updated infotainment system with the current layout... to include larger higher res screens and android auto/apple carplay... and then the system would be completely replaced for 2021.
I have worked for Infiniti for three years now, the Signature models were projected to have CarPlay but did not happen. They’re saying the 2020 model Q50/Q60 will have CarPlay, larger screens and a much more updated system in terms of resolution etc. Not all 2020 models will come with CarPlay, some will be 2021 but the Q50 will in 2020. This is information I was told a while back and just confirmed today. They have not mentioned any other changes to vehicle yet.
I disagree, always wait till year end if nothing else you get the best prices as dealerships try and clean up inventory, it's also after most of the major car unveiling
across auto-shows.
Much less likely to get burned or regret not holding off a few months.
If you frame it like that then yes I agree... But like the OP said the infotainment is the highest priority then he should wait until some announcements are unveiled.
I am just in the minority when it comes to the infotainment system, if that was my top priority I would look @ Audi’s
it took them so many years to finally realize how bad the infotainment system is
Wow, I am so glad I bought the car for its power, handling, mileage and looks, as well as having what I consider a decent audio system.
Sucks that the American models don't get the fold in mirrors either.
I love my Q, but it's boring to drive now. It would also be nice to change the color of the dash lighting depending on the driving mode too
Yeah, folding mirrors and a changing dash lighting is needed so the car won't be so boring. LOL As I said, I am so glad I bought the car for its power, handling, mileage and looks, as well as having what I consider a decent audio system.
All I can say now about my car is "restraint." It now begs me to use the power and handling it has available on tap.
I drive my car. Usually with the stereo off so I can enjoy the wonderful sounds it makes. Not much I don't like about it. Ahh, I could add more power, but using what it already has is a challenge. *I*, as the driver need upgrading.
Really, all I want now are better springs.
What's exciting about folding mirrors? I mean, they're terribly convenient on my pickup, but those mirrors stick out a foot and a half on each side so the ability to hit a button and fold them in on the fly is a lifesaver sometimes. That said, it's far from "exciting", and the mirrors on the Q are so small by comparison that I really don't see the point in general.
I don't mind the dash lighting, although the RS gauges are definitely trimmed nicer IMO. If we're bitching about the "boring" gauge lighting, my old eyes would rather there be a digital speedo screen choice in the VID like every other modern vehicle I've driven; because cramming 180mph worth of numbers into the speedo of a car that probably can't hit 160 just pisses me off. Heck, even my Silverado has the option in it's DIC, and I can easily read the numbers on the regular speedo in that. Still not "exciting" though. Maybe in addition to changeable colors, they should add a strobing option that pulses to the music...
Did they do away with the digital speedo on the information display in the 2019? My 2018 has it. You do need to turn it on in the settings IIRC.
Menu > Settings > Meter > Main Menu Selection > Average Speed.
That will show the instantaneous speed and average speed on the VID.
You can select which of the other meter screens that are displayed on the VID there also. You can then step through each of those screens with the trip computer switches on the right side of the steering wheel.
I just used the screen buttons on the steering wheel to cycle through what was available, never occurred to me that I'd have to turn the option on elsewhere. Next time I drive it I'll take a look, you're probably right.
Makes sense. That's probably how it works in my Chevy too, I should probably see what's turned off or on that I may or may not want in there.
As for the mirrors, in my experience, that isn't how it works- my power folders will also free fold if they get nudged.
Thanks guys that's great news. I'll still be holding off until December for my purchase. I was looking at other cars like the Golf R, BMW M340 and Honda accord but for the power and outstanding lease deals provided by Infiniti, the amount of car I will most likely get for the money will make the Q50 a winner. The addition of Apple Car play is exactly what I was looking for. Hopefully they can fix the shitty night time exposure of the rear camera.
I've put some thought into color, and I'll be getting black, blacking out the window trim and the chrome strips on the door handles. 15-20% tint and also blacking out the outer front grill. Will be leaving all emblems stock as well as the chrome upper strip on the trink (2018+) I might black out the chrome strip in the back but it all depends on who can do it for me due to the raised lettering.
Many cars I see (my wife's Mazda3 included) have a single display that sticks up out of the top of the dash and looks like it was added as an afterthought by the designers. Some people may diss the Q50 dual displays but at least they're incorporated into the dash properly.
I have to say the 2020 M340i Has grown on me to the point I think it's my next car. The interior is a big step up from the previous 3 series and it's pretty quick. Price isn't bad either I priced a pretty loaded one out for 58K and I've heard people are getting 10% off MSRP. Prices will only be slightly higher than the RS. This is a good looking car.

Looking forward to seeing the q50 with a bigger hi res screen.......my A4 lease is up in December. By then the 2020 Q50 should be out and is high on my list.
