Default Maintenance Advantage vs. Infiniti Motorsport brake pads

I've decided to replace the brake pads when I install the Z1 2-piece rotors instead of keeping the OEM pads, even though they are hardly worn. I was considering the Maintenance Advantage brake pads and while I was talking to the service manager at Beaverton Infiniti about shipping my car today, I brought the subject up with him. He said they have received several complaints about the MA pads making a lot of noise and as a result, they don't keep them in stock anymore.

He then pointed me towards the Infiniti Motorsport pads and said they were a better pad than the MA or the OEM pads. There are three different pad kits depending on the type of driving you do. He sent me a IPSB for the pads dated a month ago:

The part numbers for the street pads for the Q50 sport brakes are:

Front - Part Number: 41060NS210INF for $136
Rear - Part Number: 44060NS210INF for $126

They are about twice the price of the MA pads. Everything I've read here is positive about the MA pads so I'm somewhat confused as to which to go with. I guess I'm leaning towards the Motorsport pads but was curious if anyone here has experience with them.

Part of the problem with MA pads is the techs donít use brake grease. Itís simple. When I was at Infiniti, this was an issue and parts went back and forth with service about it. We finally made progress when one of the techs admitted he didnít know he needed to. Well, itís crucial on the factory pads, why not the MA? Even the slip of paper that comes in it state that.

Iíve sold countless MA pad sets in the past online and have yet to warranty a set. The only ones that got complaints were in-shop at the dealer I left.

Normally, if thereís an issue, customers speak up. I lean toward techs thinking to not to use brake grease because the single layer shim is on so tight.

One more thing: MA pads are not for performance use. If anyone wants something more durable, get performance pads. But, that bulletin the service advisor gave you notates that the lower grade street pad set has the potential for noise.

The BBK kits I was considering don't fit, I'll just keep my Z1 two piece brake rotors and may consider Ferodo pads. The DS2500's are quiet, very capable street moto-X, and when broken in the film on your disk is the same as their track pads, so you can switch to track pads w/o having to rebed. Very cool. @Avedis53

The Motorsport brake pads showed up today so the car goes into the shop for pads, rotors and rear anti-sway bar installation on Friday. I was reviewing bedding in procedures online and everyone has a different procedure for doing it. Z1 recommends this:

"Standard bed in procedure we use is an 80mph to 20mph stopping 3 to 4 times then a 60 to 15 or 10 and drive around without coming to a complete stop for around 10 to 15 minutes for a proper cool down procedure."

I suppose I'll follow Z1's procedure but the variation of the procedures I looked at is substantial.

Z1 has it right. Do not come to a complete stop after each hit. Then cool down while driving. Carbotech was similar, but higher speeds, and more hits. Same deal. Do not come to a complete stop, then cool down after w/o stopping. I did 125 to 20 about 7 times. They said till the brakes start to fade. I got no fade after 7 hard, almost ABS action applications. You don't want that either. Talk about smell! My brakes got HOT!!

Good luck man , My tech did the procedure and 2 weeks later my rotors wrapped Z1 refused to warranty the rotors. There still sitting in my basement for 2 years, I couldn't find a place the "cuts" drilled rotors and I'm was lazy to take them to the junk yard LOL

Just buy the rebuild kit and seat yourself. Are you sure they are warped? Could be they just have uneven pad material on them. B4 I got new rings, I'd wet sand with 800 grit. Both the rotors and the pads. Rinse and rebed the pads correctly. Good chance they are not warped.

Regardless, the hats are most probably still good.

I finally have the Z1 Motorsports 2-piece rotors and Infiniti Motorsports brake pads installed as well as the Stillen rear anti-sway bar. $500 to do the work at the GM dealership here. Their master mechanic did the work and liked the rebuildable Z1 rotors. I have the Stillen bar set at the stiffest setting for now. Still need to bed-in the rotors and pads though. There aren't a whole lot of places around here to do the 80 -20 mph bed-in at normal hours so I'll have to go out early or late to find a decent stretch of road.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the anti-sway bar and the new brakes. 😁😎
