Hi guys I’m new to this forum so spare me. I have a 2015 3.7 Q50 just purchased two weeks ago. Anyway this morning i wasn’t paying attention and put my car in drive but the negative sign which I’m assuming is downshifting? LOL. Anyway i noticed my engine making a loud sound going 40 mph so i pulled over then realized it was in the wrong gear so i changed it to drive and went on with my day... does this cause any wear or damage? Should i be concerned? It was for only a few seconds it sounded like a motorcycle lol..i thought someone was on a bike next to me. i haven’t had any issues since the car drives fine. I’m just paranoid so i figured I’d post on here. Lol thanks in advance

Yes, the negative symbol on the shifter means downshift. I seriously doubt you did anything bad to the transmission or engine. Don't give it a second thought.

No you're totally fine. Sounds like you downshifted and bounced the rev limiter. Not a big deal, that's why we have a rev-limiter in place - it protects the "edit motor". I have done it many times in many a VQ and never had any issues.

As Avedis said you downshifted manually, unless you were driving the car for extended periods at those speeds
you have nothing to worry about.

The 3.7 Q50 has an engine that makes most of it's power at higher RPM's just like a motorcycle, so saying
"It sounded like a bike" is actually very accurate.

Just don't make it a continuous habit @VrangQ50 ; even though VQ37 engine and JR710E/JR711E transmission are robustly built, you do not want to cause any undue stress to them.....especially taking into account of not knowing how the previous owner(s) drove the car.
