Default Looking for input from folks who have swapped to non run flats

I have the Conti DWS 06 a/s in 255/40/19 on stock RS rims, 19x9 square.

Have some 100 miles on them and pretty much since I got them, noticed what sounds like riding over groves (think road median or shoulder ribs on eway), but to a much lesser extent. Itís most noticeable over concrete roads, less pronounced over smooth asphalt/freshly paved roads.

Itís noticeably louder at hywy speeds 60mph+ and can feel slight vibrations in cabin caused by the audible sound.

Anyone had this or something similar?

Is this something typical of new tires, mainly these or is there some kind of break in period?

Looking for feedback before I head back to tire shop, thx!

I haven't experienced that with my Conti's at all. I'm not aware of any break-in period. I've got about 13,000 miles on mine so far on stock RS wheels squared.

Could be a wheel balancing issue?

I ditched the run flats two months ago after experiencing a blowout on the highway and also went with 255/40/19 Conti DWS 06. I'm happy you made this thread because I had a similar experience for the first 100-200 miles or so. Tire noise and ride harshness seemed only marginally improved over the run flats and I thought I was loosing my mind. The dealer took a look when I went in for an oil change and said everything seems fine. It's now 2,000 miles later and I'm happy to say that I no longer experience those issues. I chalked it up to a break in period, but who knows. I believe my tires have a manufacture date of Jan 2019.

Sorry for the long post, but all this to say maybe give it another 100 miles.

Thank you all for the feedback so far.

A work buddy also suggested it could be wheel balance, but seeing that another fellow Q50 peer, @lake985 , has had something similar, I will give it another 100-200 miles and see if they "break in" and that odd noise/vibes fade away.

Although mine are not from early 2019, they are from late 2018 (3x are from 47wk and other is 48wk) so maybe batch from this period has some rough edges that need to smooth out?

Thanks again Q50 community!

My new Pilot asport 4S's had a vibration when I first had them installed. I was going to pull back into the shop to recheck the balance and look for a high spot or squirm when back on the balance machine.
But my TPMS showed one tire 4 lbs off. So I aired it down and drove home to get my good air gauge.
I also noticed an immediate loss of MPG.
After resetting the PSI and a 30 mile test drive on known good road surface the vibration and MPH issues went away.
I believe the compound needs some flexing to break-in.

I also read not to use these in below freezing temps as bad things happen and are not covered.
Latest report is very favorable. I'm at 28 MPG (indicated) "hyper-mileing". Very quiet and soft feeling on expansion joints. Wear rated at 300 so won't last long, but stick well.

Tire manufacturers typically recommend 500 miles to "break in" tires by going easy on acceleration, braking, and cornering. The mold release chemicals on the tire need mileage to wear that off the tread so the tire's traction improves. Also, residual lubricant on the tire bead left over from wheel mounting could cause the tire to slip on the wheel if you go WOT before it dries completely.

I would imagine new tires are a lot like new shoes, where you need to wear them for a while so they loosen up and fit your foot comfortably.

I have the same Conti's DWS-06s (size 265/35ZR20) on my wife's '15 Audi Allroad (AWD), and recently, about two weeks ago, had one tire replaced due to non-repairable puncture in the tread. I have noticed a similar behavior with the new tire, so it's likely the tire itself, and not a balance issue.

When on the highway, the vibration is not noticeable (in the PNW, the roads get physically worn-out and grooved. so you worry more about tramming issues.) However, I noticed a harshness (it's on the right front) when I'm in sweeping turn on a road leading to the highway, which is older aggregate pavement, with a road speed of 35-45 mph.

Hope this helps.

Great feedback!

I should have noted, tried with cold psi at 32 and went up to cold psi of 36, with same behavior. So definitely not psi related as @JohnInNH had, also been driving them in "warmer" weather (above 50 degrees).

Seems this could be tire themselves as now @IridiumRS400 also experienced something similar, perhaps they made a slight change in their prod process so they do require that 'break in' period.

BTW, Love the comparison @Avedis53 made.

Going to ride them out for a bit (taking it somewhat easy) once I get my car back from dealer Ėyeah, thatís a whole another story, for a later time folks!

I'm guessing the shop didn't bother to take the stickers off the tires. Once they wear off things will smooth out and get quiet.

2018 Iridium Blue, AWD, Q50 Red Sport w/ Sensory and ProACTIVE packages and an illuminated grille emblem that is no longer anything special as my neighbor's lowly Chevy truck has one too.
