Nissan recalls 989,701 vehicles in North America for airbags | The Detroit News

The recall will include the 2014 Infiniti Q50 sedan and QX60 crossover, the 2013-14 Pathfinder sport utility vehicle, Leaf electric car and Sentra compact, according to the statement.

Consider this another chance to get a free car wash.

Nissan had this issue for the past 5+ years. I'm just surprised it took them that long to finally do a recall. And what's even worse is with them knowing they had a passenger airbag/sensor problem, they still went ahead and used same parts for their next generation cars.
Mid-April? Hope no one gets in an accident before then and has this issue.
All car companies have had airbag issues since day one the airbags have been installed in the cars because there are limited airbag manufacturers.
Nothing alarming.
I am not surprised.

I have been having issues with the airbag off light being on with my wife in the car and with the seatbelt reminder staying on after passengers exit.

Like most of the rest of my problems, Infiniti has maintained these things to be normal.

This car is a mess. Soon enough it will no longer be my problem.

It says SUV QX60 and Q50...did they mean the QX50? Or just confused the Q50 as being an SUV like the rest of the world did when it first came out?
I got a call last week from dealer regarding recall. When I asked what's the recall all about? She said, it is just system update and she did not know much detail about based on what she is looking into computer. I asked her, is this something urgent or critical? she said no. So since I haven't had a chance to take my car, I guess it can wait.
My appointment is this weekend and I will find out if this is about the airbag.

It happened to my twice when my friend was sitting there and the airbag light went on. I thought maybe because she is only 90lbs and the system thought it is a children? or malfunction?
toinfiniti, my car is going in tomorrow.
They were also pretty vague on the phone so I'm not sure it's for DAS or something else.
Should find out more tomorrow.
My service department said to expect a recall on this mid-April. I told them to expect to own my car by then.

Your to cool for school Mike...
I just called my dealer and was told that "very few" vehicles were affected by this and that it was a voluntary recall. They will not have the parts to repair the vehicle until approximately mid-April.

Good to see someone looked into it in a rational manner. :)

It is pretty accurate to say that. They have to make a minor weight threshold adjustment. Looks like they assumed all Americans were over a (very light) weight. They were close but not quiet there. :)

That is not the case. There have been several updates to several models over the years. Every time the system under the passenger seat gets changed they are likely to have a software update to make one adjustment or another. No big deal but it goes all the way back to the early 90s with a big one in the Altima.

The QX60 is the new JX. The QX50 is the new EX35/37 and has no updated seat airbag components so it should not be included in this recall.

Good question. The article does say "QX60 and Q50 SUVs." It may well be for the QX50 - or the person writing the article did a poor job of separating the Q50 from the SUV group. If I were to guess, I would think it's the latter, since the QX50 is based on the G, and that is not part of the recall.

My last BMW was recalled for the same reason.

I haven't heard about any airbag light issues with Q50's. QX60 is a different matter. Had a few clients with issues.

toinfiniti, your spinner friend is the reason for the light, not the system. She weighs so little that the system things it is a child or a purse. From what I recall, the limit for the system is somewhere between 100 and 125lbs.

I just came back from my 5k service this afternoon. I asked my service advisor about the recall, but it didn't show up on the computer for my vehicle. She wasn't certain if Infiniti had loaded it in the system yet, and suggested I wait and see if I get a notification in the mail.

I have also noticed the Passenger Airbag Off light randomly illuminate when my GF is sitting in the seat, but she is about 100 lbs. Maybe I might make her sit in the back seat :D

its all misinformation about Q50 airbag recall.
My G coupe had the airbag recall too. It was for the passenger side harness that "over time, would fall apart" due to rubbing / vibration or whatever. And cause the airbag light to show.

"Front passenger seats have sensors that determine the passenger’s weight and turn off air bags off if a child is on board. The malfunctioning sensors can turn the air bags off even if an adult is in the seat."

Looks like it's the same issue the G Coupe had. I guess those idiots haven't learned anything from past experiences?
