Another "What is it for" question.

O.K., how about a thread that isn't a complaint. I was perusing the InTouch today, so I'm back with a question that you techies should know the answer to:

I found something called the "Auto Start Setting." One is for the Clock and the other says Maintenance Note. When I touched them, it asked me if I wanted them to start when the car started. I guess I'm missing something, since the clock already is working. So what are these two things? I don't want to tell it yes to something if it's going to change what is working well now.

And I've got some Navigation information(or rather, some non-information, as it turns out). When someone here posted that the Nav system is from Navteq, I went to their website to find some information. When I couldn't find what I was looking for, I sent them an e-mail, asking for their assistance. I received an e-mail back from

Infiniti Navigation Center
P.O. Box 1588
Orem, UT 84059

telling me to call them for help (800-777-0325).

When I reached them, I told the CR what I wanted, and was told that they don't have the Q50 listed. Not only that, they don't have the QX60 listed either. I asked about the JX, and they also don't have that listed(they do have a listing for the QX56). It sounds like they're as helpful as other areas of Infiniti Customer Service. :( She told me that Navteq changed its name about a month ago to "Heremaps," if anyone here is interested. She also said that Navteq just supplied the raw data for the Navigation system, but didn't create it.

That last sentence is everything to know about the problems with in-car nav systems. I heard the same excuse from Navteq, vs Lexus, we only do the maps, not the routing. It's dejavu all over again. Of course, Lexus tells me that if the map is wrong, how can the routing be correct.
Looks like another case of tossing it over the fence and blaming someone else! Hate that!

Again, can someone tell me what the setting is, and what does it do?
I look at it as being similar to Windows bootup and how you can disable certain things from loading on startup. Try turning them off and restarting the car. Then access the app and see if it loads. If it loads, then you are just manually starting it when you need (or never). If it doesn't load, put the auto start setting back on. Turning it off (and if it's still functional) MIGHT increase the boot time of the computer by a few milliseconds...

I don't think that answers the question. For example, as I said, since the clock already works, how would telling the computer "yes" change anything? And what is "Maintenance Note?" With everything working the way I want already, I don't want to fool around with something like this unless I know what it does. Anyone?
According to the manual:

"[Auto Start Setting] Enable this setting to automatically launch the application upon vehicle ignition. If the Auto Start Setting is enabled, some applications may be accessible to other drivers of your vehicle."

In regards to the maintenance portion, it sound to me that the car will perform a maintenance check upon start up / boot up. Perhaps other apps will be added to this feature as well (other than clock and maintenance)? Like windows (mentioned by IRadi8), it sounds like you can select / deselect which non essential programs / apps start upon booting up the car.
"[Auto Start Setting] Enable this setting to automatically launch the application upon vehicle ignition.

The clock??? Doesn't make sense.
The setting is to display the clock automatically on the screen when you start up the car. Just guessing.
Im with selzini on this one. Im really wanting to know as well.

That's how I assume when I enable it.. but unfortunately it didn't work as I thought it would.. but all I can see is under the running app section you will see "clock" is currently running that's all nothing display on the screen.. sucks thought..
