So I subscribe to XM. For whatever reason the default on the Q50 XM radio is for channel lock to be on and it therefore blocks all of the XL channels (ie: Opie and Anthony, Howard Stern ... ect....)

My story: I get my new Q50 ... and can't get any of the XL channels to work, although the rest of the XM platform is operating fine. Every time I try and go to 103 or 100 it just sits on Channel 1 instead. I figure its a problem with my new subscription, so I call XM Customer Support.

I spent almost an hour on the phone with XM trying to figure out what the problem is. They are absolutely no help and instead waste my time telling me to turn off the radio about a million times and they keep sending me refresh signals. Eventually it occurs to me and I then suggest to the technical support specialist that perhaps the "parental lock" might be active. She agreed that might be the issue (Not sure why I had to think of it rather than her, but oh well....)

So I hang up with XM and start playing with the radio. (You can't enter channel lock options while the car is moving, so I had to park)

Once parked, I go to the channel lock screen. It needs a pass code to change the lock options. I DON'T HAVE A PASS CODE AND I DEFINITELY DIDN'T SET ONE. After playing around with this for a few minutes, I discover that the default pass code appears to be "1234". You can change it if you wish.

Once entered, I can access the channel lock features, and I turn off the channel lock. Immediately my XL stations become active. I am happy.

Unfortunately, every time I turn off the car the channel lock goes active again. So every time I want to hear my XL stations, I have to re-enter my pass code to make them active. HENCE THE BUG!

If anyone can figure out a way to keep the channel lock feature permanently OFF, it would be greatly appreciated.

In order to avoid having to go back to the radio lock feature every single time, I switched it to permanently lock channel 103 (Opie and Anthony). It accepted that decision and it seems to be holding that particular lock between the car shutting down. When I turn the car back on, I just need to hit the button for channel 103, I automatically get prompted for my pass code (rather than having to go to the channel lock screen) and once the pass code is entered, all my XL channels go active.

Still, even this trick is annoying. I should be able to permanently shut off the channel lock so that there is absolutely no need to ever type in my pass code again.

Any thoughts?

I have a thought . . . That sucks!!

Hopefully one of the bugs they're going to have to work out of the system.

Seems like a good workaround, albeit crazy you have to deal with it all.

Good find on the pass code too - I' sure that will save lots of other people tremendous headaches.

I wonder if others are having the same problem. Don't know if you can save your user profile once you out in the pass code to see of that takes. Maybe you have to update it after each little change to save those preferences? Just a thought.

Are you still working with the 3 month free trial or did you switch to your regular subscription? I assumed that I couldn't access Howard because it wasn't part of the trial, which I believe was the case with my last Infiniti EX. But definitely thanks for the tip about the lock. I will check that out.

For anyone who is interested in XM past the 30 day trial - they used to have a "lifetime" subscription of $300+ (they added in taxes and the "song" fee). I calculated it as a monthly fee of $3.25 after everything was added in.

In reality, it is only for 10 years (I guess they consider that the "life" of the car), but it is not transferable (if your radio was replaced, you would have to get a new subscription).

You have to call and ask specifically for the deal, but it is a real bargain if you plan on keeping your car for years (which my wife and I tend to do).

I am not using the free demo. The free demo, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't have the XL channels. I had prepaid for XM Radio until September of 2014 on my old Infiniti G35, which included Best of Sirius (ie: Howard Stern), so practically the first thing I did when driving off the lot with my Q50 was to call XM, cancel the free demo and have them transfer the subscription from the old G35 to the Q50.

Everything is working perfectly, except for the annoying channel lock issue. I'm going to call the tech at the dealership this week to let him know about the problem. Hopefully he can relay it to Infiniti directly so that they can fix the problem with the next software update.

Last time I leased we had a 3 month trial and I was able to pay a bit extra each month for the first 3 months to get the extra channels. After that, I paid for a full subscription. Not sure if they are still doing that or not but its worth asking about.

actually...at the end of your free trial....what you do is call XM and tell them you're interested in keeping XM...but the price is more than you want to pay......they will redirect you to someone else who will offer you a 5 or 6 month option for $30

i keep calling every 5-6 months and it works out great.....its the cheapest you can possibly get XM

Channel lock

This channel lock is very frustrating. I agree with the posts above, it has nothing to do with XM Radio, it is the channel lock setting in the iTouch that resets every time the car is started. I hope Infiniti fixes this with their next software upgrade. In the meantime, I will lock one of the channels so at least a password is prompted on the screen, instead of following the path Control/Other/Channel Lock...

Press the Audio button.Select SXM. From the top right of the screen select Control. You now have the SXM Control options in front of you. Select Other. Scroll to the bottom to locate "Channel Locking Settings." Pass code: 1234. Hit Okay. Note that Lock Mode is illuminated. Select it to turn it off. I hope this helps and I wish you well.

I was wondering why i wasn't getting all the channels. While on the phone with SXM they just sent a refresh signal, it did nothing. I was told by SXM that the free trial includes all channels, but im missing alot of stations.

I called today to transfer my remaining balance of my subscription on my G37 to my Q50 and was also told that the 3 month trial includes Premium channels but I've never listened to them so am not even sure which channels they are to see if I can access. However, while I was looking for some stations that I do listen to regularly I couldn't find them. I'll have to see if they are locked out for some reason.

I did the unlock thing and then tried to tune to 100 to listen to Howard and it gave me an error that said I was not subscribed to the channel. I don't think the free trial includes the premium channels.

I just got my car last night and ran into this same issue with calling Sirius and them trying to refresh the signal. By the way I'm already a customer of SiriusXm and most of their customer service reps are below average in their product knowledge at best.

After spending the last 15 minutes of my lunch hour I did figure out how to unlock the stations but lets hope Infiniti comes out with a software update that fixes this issue.

.
Now there's an understatement :D. I've never met a Sirius/XM I've liked, or that could solve a problem.

Welcome to the boards!!

Please post your thoughts on your new car - and pics!

Enjoy the ride!

XM radio issue

Ok this is a glitch that I see we are all having and in the hopes that it will be resolved by the Infiniti techno geeks soon. There is no real work around with this that me and the very significant other (aka HBIC) can figure out other than:
1. Go to audio
2. Control
3. Other
4. Arrow to Channel Locking Settings
5. Enter password 1234
6. High lite lock mode to "on"
7. Select Lock Channel Setting
8. Select channels that you prefer or channels that do not show up in your trial subscription, THEN SAVE YOUR SELECTIONS BY SETTING IT TO L1 or L2 via set buttons on drivers side door!
9. Go back to audio menu, select a "blocked channel", your enter password pop up will show, enter 1234, then the channel should be playing.
Yes this a pain in the a$$ but it is a bit easier than resetting the channels EVERYTIME you turn the car off. You just have to enter your password whenever you change channels to the so called blocked channels.
