At least twice this has happened. After turning off the car I open the door and the car chimes with a warning and the door open picture displays (as usual). I can't figure out why I'm getting the chiming though. I shut the door lock the car and come back and all is fine. I always leave the headlights on auto so that can't be it. Any ideas?

You beat me to it! Had the same question. That chime causes me to check the usual suspects (lights, keys, etc). Is it due to the proximity of the key fob at the time of ignition being turn off?

I think this happens when you open your door before you turn the car off. Haven't tried to verify but that's when it seems to happen to me.

Maybe it's due to auto headlight and the light is still on. Try turn it to the OFF position before you get out and see what happen.

Just a goofy Infiniti thing. If you open the door before turning off the car you get the chime. I never understood why they do this as it is very annoying but it's been on my last 4 Infinitis.

It's just one of the many warnings built into the car, telling you that a door is open when the engine's running. I wonder if the OP opened the door WHILE turning off the car. The chime would sound in that case.

I think it's part of the Chinese Fire Drill Warning System. I know it makes me want to run around the car, waving my arms.

For me, it happened the other day, after I pulled into the drive way, I opened the door, then turned the car off and the chime continued until I closed the door.

Today at work, (I really wasn't paying that much attention), I believe I turned the car off THEN opened the door and no chime...:confused:

So selzni, you may be correct, when I get a chance I'll try both ways to see if it makes a difference.

Only happens with me when I do what you have described above.

I've noticed the chime too when getting out on a few occasions. I believe we are opening the door just to quickly before the car fully shuts down. I usually am hitting the power off while moving to open the door. I'll pay attention from now on and see if I can get it to happen after shutdown. I have noted the chime while exiting and what I thought was an off condition a few times in less than a week's ownership.

Hmmm, OP specifically says that he hears the chime after opening the door AFTER turning the car off. So, either he has the order mixed up and it is the door open chime or it's the lights, but I'm not 100% sure.
My wife had this issue too, but I never did. It resulted in the battery discharging and having to jump start it (battery box). When it hsppened to her the next time, I went out to double check. Turnd ou she hadn't pushed the shifter all the way into park (verified on the screen in the middle of the gauges). Once I pushed the shifter all of the way into park, the dinging stopped.

Once we discovered this, we haven't had the issue since.

I was able to recreate this tonight. Turn the car off and immediately open the door. If you open the door quick enough (before the car shuts down fully), the chime goes off and the LCD screen in the instrument cluster shows the car with a door open Warning. So basically it triggers as if the car was still running and a door opening.

I think I know exactly why. It actually happened to me quite often. :(

Maybe ... the light is still on. .
and setting wasn't at "auto" or "off". That's why.

I usually set my lights at "auto" and it never chimes. However, if I manually turned the lights on, (no longer at "auto"), then when I turn off the car and exit, it would chime. Turn the lights back to "auto", chime stopped! which i think is better than "off" (although that will also stop the chime). You most likely would want it be "auto" next time you start the car...)

It happens due to headlights being either
on AUTO
OR
ON ( with or without "battery saver" mode)

Opening the door before turning off the engine causes this as a warning that the car still has the ability to be placed in gear and moved while the door is open. I have a 2014 Q50, A 2011 G37 Convertible and @ Nissan and they all do the same thing.

Mine chimes all the time. It just started a day or two ago. I chimes when I open the door to get in. It chimes when I shut it off AND THEN open the door. It does this with or without the key being present.
