I thought about what to do to cut down on the two horizontal chrome finishers on the trunk lid. I felt like they took away from the lines of the car in the rear, focusing your eyes to these two pieces only. I considered a gloos black paint or platidip, but decided to try the Dupli-color "Shadow" Chrome Blackout Coating kit. I like the results as it still has the chrome luster, but is now very dark. You control the darkness of the coating with how many coats you apply. I would do no less than 2 for an even coating, the results shown below are with 3 coats of shadow and 2 coats of clear. A huge must is to clean the parts you are coating very well. I used multiple passes of wiping down with IPA and a few swabs for all around the Infiniti lettering on the top piece.

Now to think long and hard about doing all chrome pieces of the car in this fashion. That may be too much of a drastic change for now. Better pictures later, my only free time recently is at night.

Hmmm...good job bro! It looks like it contrasts well with black! It is a permanent paint though huh?

Looking forward to more detailed pics man! :D

It is permanent. I stuck to these two pieces, knowing that if I didn't like the result, I would likely platidip them anyway or paint a gloss black. I do like the result though. Now to think about how to finish a splitter and rear spoiler. Factory OB match or skin with carbon fiber.

I'm glad someone finally took the "plunge". The chrome bits (especially the grill) are too shiny for The Dark Knight and I've been going back and forth with Fonzie (from Dipyourcar.com) about a combination that would give me the look of black chrome. Because it's a lease, I've been hesitant to try this product and I have to say, it looks awesome!

Maybe I'll contact my dealer to see what would be the repercussions...

That really looks great, nice job. I have the upgraded 19" black chromed wheels and I would love to have all the normal chrome on the car turned into black chrome to match the wheels. Mine too is leased so I'm thinking my options are very limited, **** I'm worried they may ask me to put the run flats back on...!

Mr. PLP, how about DYC Anthracite with glossifier for a try. Do it so I can do my front grill, door handles, and window trim. :) I would not do the rest on my car as a permanent look with this product. I don't mind the rear as I am set on the non chrome look back there, but not the rest of the car. I am also considering wheels with black barrels and lip, but with a machined face to pop with the chrome trim bits. Either that or all black stealth machine.

Yeah, that's where I'm currently at. I really liked the black chrome look ever since I got an invicta 11243 watch with it as a gift (I'm actually wearing it today). The watch has black rubber on the strap, black chrome / gunmetal on the sides of the rim, machined / satin black metal / gunmetal on the rim (slightly different / less shiny than the sides), and black carbon fiber on the inside.

Basically, the watch has black done 4 different ways and the contrast between one and the other is awesome, and something I want to replicate on The Dark Knight.

So, I'm either doing it anthracite with gloss or black with gloss (or anthracite with black tint and gloss); and by it I mean the wheels, badges, and all chrome trims.

PLP, do it and set the bar for us. I may order a few cans to experiment with myself.

Yea I think I came across that but couldnt remember! Not a fan of that but at least u can just use plastidip for a temporary solution while this is not! This looks good though since its keeping its chrome properties while making it a little darker shade!

Would love to see u black chrome all the chrome pieces! What about the emblems to start with? They look out of place now in the rear and too shiny! :D

I have to say I really like how it looks. I would consider doing this as well if I wasn't too scared to go near my Q with paint. :)

Looks amazing, I have to look for that product in Canada. Don't think I would trust myself to paint it!
