Finally was able to see and drive my car in person! I cant wait to take my baby home!!! Hahaha! Not sure what to call her yet since the wifey usually names my cars so its Chubbylita 2.0 for now!
Anyway, coming from an 03 G35 Coupe, everything felt like an upgrade to me! The leather felt so nice and I especially loved the feel of the steering wheel! Beefy with a nice and comfortable grip! I didn't get to play with the Adaptive Steering though! Controls were still new to me and I would need a little time for me to learn them! One thing that was pointed out at a different thread was that the volume controls on the steering wheel were laggy and I can confirm that! Pressed it about 4 times before the system responded and caught up with my inputs! The Bose sound system wasn't as immersive as I expected but it was still nice! It's probably because I didn't play with the settings too much but I think other reviews have pointed this out as well!
Played with the paddle shifters and it was nice! Coming from a 6MT, I feel that there is no replacing the experience of driving a manual transmission and it still doesn't, but it was a close 2nd! I haven't really gotten a hand of it yet but it's mostly knowing when to shift up or down! I usually get a feel of it from the growl of the engine and don't bother with checking the rpm but since it was so quiet, I might have to pay attention to my tachometer a little bit more now! I think I was shifting @ 4000rpm which kinda felt wrong! I also tried using the paddle shifter while in drive mode and it was wierd! It kept going to automatic but I guess the purpose of that is to do a quick upshift or downshift to your liking and so I might not be using that feature as much, if not at all!
During my test drive I set the drive mode on sport! The hybrid is quick as heck! Last time I test drove, I didn't really push the car as much and was not sure what the drive mode was set to! Kinda pulled back too since my parents were in the back seat! At one instance, the dealer got pulled back to his seat! I think he was expecting me to drive the same way as before and got caught off guard! It was a funny moment but it also gave me that rush that I wanted! Wish I was able to drive it on a more windy road to get a feel of the handling though!
Another thing I wanted to point out during my test drive is that the suspension was nice! During the test drive I purposely drove it towards some areas with rough surfaces and pot holes and it passed my expectations! Mind you I have a Hybrid Sport with 19" wheels and the dreaded run flat tires but everything felt nice and smooth! Only bias part about that is I am coming from a G35 coupe dropped by 2" with the coilovers set to almost 2 click under stiff so I am not sure my opinion in ride quality is really that valid! Either way I really loved how the test drive felt and am really sold on the car!
Lastly, I wanted to share my experience inside the Q50! The main purpose I brought my parents during my first test drive was to have them sit at the back and judge the ease of entry, seat comfort and space, and the ride comfort! They liked everything mentioned! Only thing is they are 5'1 and 5'3 respectively, so for sure there will be lots of room! Although at one point they did mention that a third person will be harder to fit in but not really something I am concerned with! The fronts seats, from my experience, were very comfortable! Both driver and passenger side! I fuss a lot when the seating position in my G35 gets changed but here I just feel relaxed and any given position! It had a nice hug to the body and the feel of the leather just gives that added comfort!
Forgive me for the composition of the review being quite cluttered! It was just an exhilarating experience and still haven't gotten it out of my system yet! Hehehe!
