Chubbylita 2.0(?) Test Drive

Finally was able to see and drive my car in person! I cant wait to take my baby home!!! Hahaha! Not sure what to call her yet since the wifey usually names my cars so its Chubbylita 2.0 for now! :D

Anyway, coming from an 03 G35 Coupe, everything felt like an upgrade to me! The leather felt so nice and I especially loved the feel of the steering wheel! Beefy with a nice and comfortable grip! I didn't get to play with the Adaptive Steering though! Controls were still new to me and I would need a little time for me to learn them! One thing that was pointed out at a different thread was that the volume controls on the steering wheel were laggy and I can confirm that! Pressed it about 4 times before the system responded and caught up with my inputs! The Bose sound system wasn't as immersive as I expected but it was still nice! It's probably because I didn't play with the settings too much but I think other reviews have pointed this out as well!

Played with the paddle shifters and it was nice! Coming from a 6MT, I feel that there is no replacing the experience of driving a manual transmission and it still doesn't, but it was a close 2nd! I haven't really gotten a hand of it yet but it's mostly knowing when to shift up or down! I usually get a feel of it from the growl of the engine and don't bother with checking the rpm but since it was so quiet, I might have to pay attention to my tachometer a little bit more now! I think I was shifting @ 4000rpm which kinda felt wrong! I also tried using the paddle shifter while in drive mode and it was wierd! It kept going to automatic but I guess the purpose of that is to do a quick upshift or downshift to your liking and so I might not be using that feature as much, if not at all!

During my test drive I set the drive mode on sport! The hybrid is quick as heck! Last time I test drove, I didn't really push the car as much and was not sure what the drive mode was set to! Kinda pulled back too since my parents were in the back seat! At one instance, the dealer got pulled back to his seat! I think he was expecting me to drive the same way as before and got caught off guard! It was a funny moment but it also gave me that rush that I wanted! Wish I was able to drive it on a more windy road to get a feel of the handling though!

Another thing I wanted to point out during my test drive is that the suspension was nice! During the test drive I purposely drove it towards some areas with rough surfaces and pot holes and it passed my expectations! Mind you I have a Hybrid Sport with 19" wheels and the dreaded run flat tires but everything felt nice and smooth! Only bias part about that is I am coming from a G35 coupe dropped by 2" with the coilovers set to almost 2 click under stiff so I am not sure my opinion in ride quality is really that valid! Either way I really loved how the test drive felt and am really sold on the car!

Lastly, I wanted to share my experience inside the Q50! The main purpose I brought my parents during my first test drive was to have them sit at the back and judge the ease of entry, seat comfort and space, and the ride comfort! They liked everything mentioned! Only thing is they are 5'1 and 5'3 respectively, so for sure there will be lots of room! Although at one point they did mention that a third person will be harder to fit in but not really something I am concerned with! The fronts seats, from my experience, were very comfortable! Both driver and passenger side! I fuss a lot when the seating position in my G35 gets changed but here I just feel relaxed and any given position! It had a nice hug to the body and the feel of the leather just gives that added comfort!

Forgive me for the composition of the review being quite cluttered! It was just an exhilarating experience and still haven't gotten it out of my system yet! Hehehe! :D

Very nice. I saw the Moonlight Q50 in person today and boy does it sparkle. Not my style, not a white car kinda guy, but it is really sexy on this car.

I paid more attention to the seats when I drove again today, and they are a 100% improvement over my own 2004. If they were going for a "no pressure points" type of deal, they nailed it.

The best thing I can say about the seats is that I never thought about them them during my hour long test drive.

Hehe! U filipino bro?

Chubbylita?? Que lastima! :p

Who's the guy in the white tee?
Yea! Not sure how it got started! I kinda remember it was a mexican restaurant near my place in Los Angeles! I dont know how it stuck! Hahaha! That hurt? Sorry had to google that! Hahaha!

Guy in the white tee is the husband of my co-worker that I brought with me to test drive! I was suppossed to habe him drive while I made a video! The only thing though is for some reason, he got scared to test drive the car! That instance where the rep got pulled back to his seat was one of them! I think i pushed it to at least 80mph a couple of times! Hehehe!

All I heard from the back was he kept saying "sooo much power"! Hahaha!

It was more of a second choice for me actually! What I wanted was sonething like the Ultrasonic Blue Lexus had on their IS F but since there was nothing like that for the Q50, something pearl white was my second choice and I don't regret it one single it! Not sure what maintenance im going to be looking forward too though! Hehe!

Seats were awesome IMO! Looking forward to that being my throne for the next couple of years! Haha!

The best thing I can say about the seats is that I never thought about them them during my hour long test drive.
Thats for sure! Its awesome u got to drive that long man! Really envious! Wanted to play with my Q50 a lot more!

The Q50S hybrid with 19" RFT is even more quite and smoother than my Lexus ES350 with 17" Michelin Primacy non-RFT. That too me is really impressive.
Thanks for those awesome moonlight white pics of the Q50. The more I see it, the more I can't wait to get mine.

I was like a kid in a candy store peeking thru the window! Hahaha! :D

I think I am happy with my decision to go for the Q50 because I wasnt expecting too much from it! The main reason I went with it was because of the sexy exterior, familiar drivetrain, horsepower and torque, and the gas savings! Other than that, everything was a pleasant surprise except for 1 thing! When I expected a bigger trunk, I easily got dissapointed when I saw it in person but I got over it quickly due to the wifeys rationalization!

Yes they were! Wish this was the one Edmunds reviewed instead!

You're welcome bro! We should do a shoot once your Q50 arrives! :D
I do hope to get mine on the 5th of next month. But, if the dealers wouldn't deal with me, it's going to be tough call for me. We'll see.

Like yourself I'm coming form a 2004 G35 Coupe, been a great car and the auto trans have been bullet proof.

I test drove the car the 2nd day the Q50's were on the lot and like yourself, I have the same opinions, of this car as being really quiet!!!!!!!

The Q50 is an impressive piece of engineering and worth every penny, best bang for the buck in this segment:D

Looking forward to my Q50H sport grey/ metallic console and black interior ;)

Exactly! And with me being audible at using my shift points, I think I need to find a proper way to know when those shift points are suppossed to be engaged! Hopefully Its not by constantly checking my tachometer!

Q50 is truly impressive and a big update from our G35! I also feel the same way that it is the best bang for the buck! Especially the hybrid! I get my money back from gas savings, I stayed under $49k, and it looks gorgeous at every angle! :D
Nice write up man. Glad you got to test drive yours. I heard mine is coming in this week so I'm eagerly awaiting a call from my dealership to come in and check it out and inspect it. Can't wait.

BTW, the white looks awesome. Fits the car really nice.

And again, awesome photography work :)

Thanks man! I like how it shows the curve but it is quite hard to photograph is the middle of the day with all those harsh lighting coming up top! Tends to wash out the white and habe to under expose the pic!

Hope you get yours soon man! Nothing like getting your brand new car and driving it the first time! :D

Very nice! I've been considering the Hybrid as well as I live in SOCAL as well and the commutes can be difficult to say the least. I've been to your dealer as I only live 10 minutes away, but I haven't gone through the purchase process with them, how are they?

Nice! Yea, hybrid is a big plus for me! Not only do I get the power I want, I also get gas savings! Especially since I mostly drive city miles and knowing the 405 area, it can sometimes be better to just take the side street @ about 4-5pm!

As for Southbay Infiniti, talk to Armando and tell them Glenn sent you! They are kinda stingy but still willing to negotiate and make a sale! Just be firm on what you want but I say get quotes from other dealers first then present it to them and have them beat it! Armando said they've sold 20 Q50s already and they currently have 35 in stock! Saw a bunch of sold papers in front of the other Q50s windshield including mine! :D

Good to know thanks. They hide all of those Q up in the back, haha. I talked with a new guys there who seems nice but of course he isn't the negotiator. I am working with my credit union's buyers program and should be able to get a decent deal. I got a good one, $2k below MSRP for the IS350 F sport but decided against it once I sat in it. I might be able to get something similar for the Q.
