It got cold here in New York and my system takes so long to boot up. When it finally does I always have no map. Just a black screen that says "problem loading map". I do not have this problem when the weather is warmer. This is incredibly frustrating. It seems that when its below 45 degrees I have no map. Once the car warms up and I start it up after a little while it usually works. Anyone else here have this problem? Its kinda ridiculous, as the cold weather has just started. you mean to tell me I will have no map data all winter when I start my car? This is dumb.

It was 30F here, this morning. Car was covered with frost. Everything worked normal.

Yes, I am experiencing a similar issue. Although the temp in so Cal does not get as cold as other places, I too have noticed that colder temps seem to cause the same problem in my q50.

My dealer did check out the car and was able to duplicate the problem just last Friday. According to the dealer, there appears to be a network connection that is failing between the main server (primary car controller) and nav subsystem. By dealer is now researching the issue and in contact with the regional techs.

In all likelyhood, I will bring the car back to the dealer when the regional techs are present. Till then, I continue to drive the car because, although a pain in the butt, my issues are not drivable issues.

Thanks. It is annoying but not effect driving. However, me being in the northeast, every day for months will be cold. I also noticed in the cold weather the boot up times for the system is way slower. I may stop by my dealer tomorrow anyway to discuss any options I may have.

Thanks.

The slower boot up makes some sense. If there is an internal network communication issue at boot, the network would wait for a time out. I figure the system might wait 10 seconds before registering an error. The 10 sec is only a guess. But the point is that if during boot there is an error, boot will take longer.

What is curious to me is that there appears to be more network errors when the weather is cold. Usually, intermittent computer errors become more frequent when temps are higher. It is weird that both of us are seeing more navigation boot problems when temp is lower.

This kind of pattern does not point to a software issue as I had first thought months ago. My guess based on the evidence is either a bad or noise ground or a pcb via failure. Pcb via failure would tend to show up more in colder envitonments as the metal between circuit board layers contract. If this is the case, we both need new in touch systems.

I have not gotten word from my dealer yet so I will wait a little longer before pinging them.

djohnson:

Just spoke with the service manager at the dealership here on Long Island. Told him about the situation with the cold weather. He went on to say there is a software update for the system, but can't install it yet. I said I knew, but I didn't think it would fix this problem. He sounded like it would, but I know better. Regardless he can't do it anyway. So, I said I would like to have them look at it. He said that I could drop it off, so I am taking it to the dealership on Friday morning. This should be interesting. I also said I wanted a loaner Q50, which he said he couldn't guarantee, but they better give em one.
I will keep this thread updated with the response. It's also glad to know I'm not the only one having this issue.

What dealership are you dealing with in Long Island? Just curious. I had the same issue when I got my Q50 not too long after and it ended up being a faulty sd reader where the maps are stored. They were able to swap it out with a new one and I never had a problem since then.

Did you try removing the SD card and replacing it? May just be a loose connection.

Agree. Remove sd card and blow on it like the old Nintendo 16 bit cartridges. Lol

I would recommend letting everything load before you get going on the road. From what i have noticed doing several different scenarios, if you wait till atleast the infiniti logo startup is done and the map has appeared it wont have this issue. If you turn on your car and put it directly into gear you will run into issues between bluetooth not syncing, map not appearing etc.

I noticed the NAVI system has a SD card in the center console box, wonder if it has loose connections in the cold. Have not had mine on cold weather much as I have a garage at home and work.

Just got a call back from the tech. They replaced the SD card reader. They said that they have similar issues with other cars in the past and this has worked. Hopefully that will fix the issue. I will find out this weekend as it supposed to be fairly cold.

PS - They also installed the 1.9 update while they had the car.

Good to know. TKs for your report. I hope it is the same on my Q50. The card reader is much easer to replace than the whole in touch system.

Bad news folks. Just tried to pick up my car after the ad card reader replacement. That didn't work. The tech pulled it up and no map. He seemed surprised but I wasn't. He kept it and he said that they would have to order meanwhile new Intouch system.
Told me it cost them $6k. He was going to call Infiniti corp to get approval. He said he would get it like Tuesday or Wednesday. This sucks. I will keep this thread updated with results.

Bummer. Unfortunately, their diagnosis is consistent with my hypothesis. The good news is we both will end up with the most current electronics.

I am still waiting for the infiniti regional tech to check out my car. I live really close to my dealer so it is no problem driving in when he is there. Until then, my navigation issue is still intermittent.

Well folks I got my car back today, faster than I expected. They replaced the navigation control unit. The good news is everything seems good. Navigation comes right up even though its 39 degrees here today. The control unit also came with the latest software (1.9), so they didn't have update the software. The whole system seems much smoother in general than before as well. I'm actually rather happy. The service manager told me he searched the Infiniti database and Infiniti has only done 5 of these replacements nationwide.

Just wanted to give everyone an update.
