Also not all Q50 owners are as OCD as we are, in terms of listening to every little sound your turbo or drivetrain might be making. (Blasting music non-stop)

I could swear that I heard a whistle coming from my turbos a couple of days ago......but only under heavy throttle. I recall hearing whistling under any throttle input when they went bad.

Here's your caveat, if you don't go WOT in your vehicle then you are not considered in the response. ;)
I do but not very often.

That's how one of my turbos 1st indicated there was an issue. A whistle under mid-to-high boost levels, which turned out to be the impeller was rubbing on the housing internals.

It's funny because Avedis would be among the first person to have issues if it was an VW/Audi from a few years ago. They had a bunch of issues with the older buyers because they never went WOT, so the carbon built up faster in the intake runners and valves.

Always neat to see how different engines behave under different driving conditions.

Interesting,,no reasons to turbo failure,,like a 😈 devils car roulette wheel,,when you spin a 0 or 00 unlike black or red,,wonder what happens,,lol

While I don't street race or track the car, it gets plenty of WOT when I'm passing multiple cars on straight stretches of Highway 20 where there's no passing lanes and once I get on I-5, it's 80+ for a couple hours to Portland. It gets an Italian tuneup every time I go east.

you can not do an italian tune up on a direct injection motor.
Perhaps, but I was loosely referring to punching the throttle when passing on secondary roads or the freeway. Trust me, the car gets the beans enough.

I mean you can, it's just very questionable if it will actually do anything beneficial in the long run. lol

You only need to run the engine hard and redline it a few times to get things good and hot, the higher flow rate of air, coolant & oil in combination with the higher temps will loose and blow out any deposits and just blow it out of the exhaust (in theory). But if your DI motor and its intake valves are coated with carbon? Probably won't do squat, the higher temps cause a tiny amount of the deposits to flake off but that is honestly a best case scenario. lol

That said higher temps and leaner AFR from driving an engine harder should slow the build up of carbon since it usually forms under lower temperatures and richer fuel mixtures. As I'm fond of saying a redline day keeps the carbon away.... It rhymes so you know the science is good!

I hope someone is still tracking this...

Infiniti Q50 3.0t
Year- 2016
Miles when replaced -75k
One or both turbos- Both
Stock no mods
oil change @ regular interval

Car engine light came on, took to dealership then was told both turbos were leaking, also told this is "normal wear and tear". Even though I am a girl who does not know anything about cars I know this was not "normal wear and tear". Car was not under warranty and they wanted $15000 for repair.
I called U.S. Infiniti customer service and was basically told I am out of luck since it's out of warranty and that there is nothing they can do. I even mentioned that I read many others reported this issue online, just complete denial by them.
I filed a consumer protection report and I would urge everyone to do the same!

😲 omg,,woow,,sorry to hear about no-mods/well maintained Q50 blowing up,,really hope your car is restored at Lil or no cost to you..

I opted to repair it at an outside shop where the mechanic told me what everyone else is saying on here that this is NOT "normal wear and tear"...$7000 😔
I'm on here because I am so mad about it. You don't think that when you buy a luxury line vehicle, it didn't even last like your camry :mad:
