I remember someone mentioning in the troll thread started by InfinitiOwner that they tried self-healing paint, it didn't work as expected, and abandoned it.
I found the thread. Afrosheen said "This is gone. Infiniti tried it, and it failed, so they pulled it."
Yeah that's what my salesman told me. It only self heals for 2 years. It's also very hard to repaint. It basically has tiny capsules of clear coat epoxy in a matrix. When you physically damage this layer, the capsules break and seal the damage. It's sorta like when you get scratched and the cells heal over.
Cool idea but not practical for the real world and not widespread enough for your average paint shop to deal with.
Check this post from June 7 under General Discussions. The third image, "Standard Features", last item under "Exterior" says "Scratch Shield Paint". This feature is missing from everything else I have seen so perhaps it was included in error on that particular item.
