I would loosen and re-adjust the bumper to see if you can get it set right. If you didn't hit something then I'd assume the previous owner or dealers may have bumped something or it may have been removed before. I'd definitely investigate to see if there happened to be an upgraded heat exchanger hidden behind the bumper.
