Front License Plate Holder for Hybrid Sport

74635 Views 91 Replies 27 Participants Last post by  ssholloway
I'm going to order a front license plate holder from Skene Design (No Hole License Plate Bracket) but they don't have the Q50 listed yet. So I'd like to ask a favor of you lucky people who have already received a Hybrid Sport. I need to know the depth of the front bumper as shown in the attached diagram to determine the correct size.

Many thanks. :)

So do you still drill a hole with this but just underneath?

Maybe you'd like to consider the stillen license plate relocator too! It uses your towhook instead!

Thanks. Thought about the Stillen but it blocks one of the sensors. Not sure how well things work if one sensor is unavailable.

Ahhh yea forgot about that! Dont have sensors to block so it doesnt really cross my mind! If you are drilling underneath anyway, maybe just buy those cheap license plate relocators on ebay! Or did I get that drilling underneath wrong?

No, you're right about drilling underneath. But I'll check eBay for your suggestion.

Awk! The instructions I found for the license plate relocators require removing the front bumper!!! Skene uses self-tapping screws instead.
I used this on mine: Hide Away Plate Holder Hide Away License Plate Holder [PLATEHOLD] - $55.00 : Swift Motorsports, Import Performance Starts Here

Works great.

Any pic or link to those self taping screws?
They came with the plate holder.

Ah ok! So u bought another one? Btw, where did u connect the wires?
Yeah I left the one that I had on my TL. I didn't get the electric one, the motor on it is weak, it broke on me when I first had it on my TL about 2 months into having it. They replaced it with the non-electric one which never failed me. So I bought the non electric one for the Q. I just pull it up and down when I want to take pics of the car.
One size fits all.
I was leaning towards the bracket that ssholloway mentioned but the Swift Motorsports one looks good. Maddslick, any problems at high speeds with the plate falling down? Lot of high-speed driving on Texas interstates!
So I went crawling under a hybrid sport at the dealership today to measure and discovered the bottom piece I thought would be fairly solid like a bumper is more of a flexible spoiler. Does the holder you have attach to the spoiler or somewhere else? Thanks.

No problem with high speed and wind. I just came back from my drive to Canada from New York. For anyone who travels to Canada, you know you can push your car a lot more than down here in NY. I was driving a constant 100mph for about 20 minutes with no issues with the plate. I've driven with the plate both up (visible) and down (hidden) and its been really sturdy. I had it on my 05 Acura TL for 6 years and it never gave me a problem.

Mine attaches to the the bottom of the lip part for the bumper. I have a Sport as well, and if you look underneath, the sport bumper lip is at an angle. I attached the first two self tapping screws directly into the bottom of the lip and then place the support bracket and third screw further back to a plate underneath the car. I'll try to take some pictures today and post them of the mounting location.

Thanks. I didn't measure that lip but my memory is that it's pretty short. Yours has a third screw? Sounds more secure that the Stellin I was looking at, especially given the shortness of the lip.
Yeah it did, and a long metal bracket for more support as well. It's very secure on the car in both up and down position.
I went back and forth between the two but decided to get the Skene one, I went with the "long" 2.5 inch one as that seemed most secure. I'll mount it on the car in the next few nights and put a pic up.
