Fuel injection system clean advice.

I've been paying attention, I have a catch can installed, I plan on running a can of Techron through @31k miles ( hoping @Avedis53 or @xBlitzkriegx will chime in how much) and I changed ALL fluids at ridiculously low intervals.

Maintenance is beyond reproach, better labelled 'ludicrous.' (I'm going to ask for my own parking space at Crest when i pick up Scarlet this round...not a joke.)

AS I UNDERSTAND IT, Techron goes in the tank and cleans tank to injectors ('on the inside' and some valves. The injection clean thing feeds in the 'nostrils' for air, combustion chamber and valves.

QUESTION: Is the stuff they put in the intake to clean, sea foam, or whatever you guys recomend a reasonable/valuable thing to do on MY car, (bought new, considering the above) to maybe skip/delay the valve walnut shell clean? (Not for $194, of course. Strictly in terms of value and maintenance.)

Thanks

Loaner not terrible....but it's no Lambo.

Since the car is DI, Techron cannot do anything for the valves. Going through the intake will allow the cleaner to pass over the valves. How effective it is is the real question.

Methanol injection will accomplish the same end result as it's injected in the intake or manifold and DOES hit the intake valves, which makes it beneficial on an additional front beyond cooling the intake charge.

Crc turbo/intake cleaner does a good job at cleaning and recommended by many auto pros. I ve used it several times on my Q which is port injected and I have it down to a science, on the vr30 its more tricky because of the engine layout/but basically find the vacuum line leading in to throttle bodies and at approx 2k rpm-short sprays into bodies,,half can is fine first time out and after turning car off let it heat soak for hr-hr 1/2,,now when you start it up you will see clouds of white smoke which is gunk you've eliminated,,as you drive the car (which will feel phenomenal) any sluggishness GONE/and you will eliminate rest thru tailpipe. On rare case you trigger check engine light ✨️ no worries just read an reset,it will be related to intake action) I learned to clean my intake system on my previous car and only disappointment is my current Q50 doesn't have buildup-deposits like a direct injection engine would. Numerous videos about to help guide you,,it works and I hope to hear your progress-results,,there will be some who argue my info,,I jus wish I had a vr30 TO CLEAN..

I considered the methanol, for over a year now - first for horsepower (decided no) then for cleaning (again no.) Sustainable mods is a term i picked up here. Even low dose, that won't lean your F/A ratio to the point of possible damage, it creates another 'complication' (to use watch parlance), that has to be monitored and maintained. Unless i run out out of sh$t to spend money on, I'm about 98% no on the AQ/M.

This sounds right...and like one of the few things i need to do myself for the time/soak/diagnostic (smokey) factors involved. Assuming all else is perfect, spray it in and move on to the next thing, charge $200 is what i would expect from the dealer.
You got it!,,helpful to have a buddy or family member hold rpm steady although I have perfected my extendable ice scraper-brush wedge between accelerator and drivers seat moved fwd to push it til it creeps and holds at desired rpm,,remember several videos to help,,and crc sponsors 1..

I have copied, pasted and emailed your directions. I guess we'll give it a try. TY
Engine needs to be warm, only tricky part is accessing-finding point where you will spray intake cleaner/on my car I make small area where I move intake coupler to create space I slip the plastic spray tip wand into to deliver the cleaner, with the anatomy of your engine different and having the intercoolers jus before the throttle bodies I believe) makes the access point unclear/but every video I have seen they use the vacuum line before throttle body to deliver Cleaner into engine/can Google vr30 intake cleaning "to make it clear,,beyond that it's amazingly simple with a definite payoff in performance and I DID IT",quotient..

Sounds pretty 'cut and dried.' Any turbo guys have input on access point?

Without advice, my conceptual understanding and fear of messing with that motor has me taking off the air cleaners and spraying it in there. Ha. But not a joke.
Hahahahaha 😆 ,,I feel 🤣 you,,I mean why would anyone do the walnuts,,expensive dealership scam treatments, etc, when in half hour you could in the driveway,,? MUST BE little more to it on vr30 but definitely will find it being done on YouTube on vr30 I watched the process on a late model Q50 3.0tt

And on my car you COULD SPRAY just past air filters an get job done,,maybe a little residue inside intakes, but the throttle bodies suck the cleaner right in)Your car has the 2 big boxes before throttle bodies that you wouldn't want the solvent going into I believe,,intercoolers? I believe)

small amounts of WMI arent enough to throw anything off, will give you padding, and you dont HAVE to tune for it, ie to make more power.

a very modest wmi kit will be able to clean the valves over time. if you forget to kill it, no big deal. you didnt tune for it and youre not running a ton so it wont matter.

Blitz, you KNOW how impressionable I am...now I've got to pour back over everything and rethink it for weeks.

Fortunately, I don't have 'knee jerk big spend capabilities', like a lot of you guys. Little bit slower spending serves me well, on this case.
Take it slow Scarlet, wait until you are certain you know what your doing,,only benefit I can't wait for you to experience is the raise in performance, I mean you don't have a gazillion miles yet so make it a project your determined to try to get done..I ve seen a number of Q50 owners get stifled by throttle controller installs/including myself)

To answer your question about Techron, you have a 20 gallon gas tank so you need the 20 oz. bottle of Techron, not the 12 oz.

LOL, I have done the same thing in the past with another car. Much easier to do with a power seat than with a manual seat.

I slip the plastic spray tip wand into to deliver the cleaner
This always scares me as I have blown the plastic straw off so many things over the years I worry about one going into the engine.
Yes absolutely, the crc turbo/intake cleaner can has a hard straw built into the can-spray button,,more secure..
