Help - Premium vs. Sport: Seats and Fascias

38127 Views 42 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  NTOwens
Ok.... I am currently deployed in Afghanistan and will probably be ordering my new Q50 within the next couple of weeks, hopefully for an October delivery.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to test drive before buying, nor do will I be able to do any “in person” color comparisons.
Thanks to all BTW that have posted so many real world pics. It’s been quite helpful.
I may need some more help from those of you who are stateside.

I am leaning toward the following config:
Moonlight White (Like Infiniti Chick – I figure she put enough thought into it for me)
Premium
Navi
Leather (Graphite)
Deluxe Touring
19” Sport wheels

I have owned 3 G Sedans in the past, all Sport. (’03, ’08 & ’10)
I always found the “extra bolstering” to be uncomfortable on longer trips.
I am not a skinny dude, and my larger 6’1” frame just didn’t quite fit the sport seats – even when fully “open”. But what I did enjoy – was the thigh extender!!

So, I’m looking for your feedback if you have sat in either of them:
I wonder if the Premium seats might be more comfortable to me (left to right – if you will) than the newly designed Sport seat?
I note that the Premium seat doesn’t have the thigh extender (front to back comfort)?
I have gone ten years with the Sport seats, and I aint gonna get any smaller – lol, but it has been with some long-term driving discomfort.

Another thing that might keep me from the Sport is that I am not terribly crazy about the look of the Sport front fascia in MW.
I think this is mainly because of the stark contrast of the black fog light/led surround to the clean white bumper color.
I feel it is a “cleaner” look on the Premium fascia.
I’m a little surprised that I haven’t seen anyone else mention it here before.
Maybe it’s just me – I don’t know.

So that’s why I configured my car as a Premium, and am considering giving up the bigger brakes, tighter suspension, paddle shifters and contrast stitching.
Plus, I really want the Deluxe Touring package (I can’t believe you have to opt for that for telescoping steering wheel).
I can’t see paying for both the Sport and DTP.
So I think I have ruled out the Sport all together (at least in Moonlight White).

I was kinda all over the place here – so final thoughts:
If you sat in either seat, what are your thoughts?
And I’m curious about what you think regarding the MW Sport vs. Premium fascia.

Also, if in the next couple of weeks you have a chance – compare them for me. Be my “Seat Filler”!
So, report back.
All thoughts are welcome, even if it’s speculative and not first-hand.

Thanks all.

I'm a big dude 6'3", 225+ lbs, and sat in both types of seats. Normally I find the side bolsters of sports seats uncomfortable for my size...however, I actually thought these new sports fit me perfectly, and were very comfortable. I personally would not hesitate on the sport trim, at least because of the seats.

The front fascia is certainly a matter of personal preference. I like the aggressive front, but I understand its not for everybody.

Hope that helps, and thanks for your service. Get back safe.

Thanks for your service. I don't have any answers for you right now!
Also keep in mind that sport comes with the leather and the wheels which cost $2000 to add to the premum car. So its a true $1650 to get the seats, brakes, suspension, sport facia, aluminum pedals, paddle shifters etc. I have to agree with C Diddy that seats on both models are much wider and more comfortable than before. The seats are designed to redistribute your body mass to give a feeling of weightlessness

I configured mine exactly like yours. Sport suspension is too stiff, but adding the 19" wheels and tires makes the premium look and drive more sporty than just the normal premium. I also don't like the black around the fog lights and think paddle shifters on an automatic are a waste and never get used. I also don't like the stripe look on the sport seats. If they hadn't offered the 19's on the premium I probably would have gotten the sport, but I'm glad I didn't have to, even if it's "only" another $1650 that's still another $50 a month on a lease.

What do you mean by stripe look of the leather seats? The stitching or something else? I was told the white stitching on the black leather was in all Q50s. Is that incorrect? I didn't see a Sports yesterday that wasn't black leather. Do all color options have white stitching???

I also hate the punched holes in all the leather seats. No idea why they did it since they aren't cooled. I think it takes away from the luxury look of the leather. Do all Q50s have those holes or just Sports??

As with Nissan, the Premium Leather has the holes and the Standard Leather does not.
Thank you NTOwens for your service!!! Stay safe and come home to a beautiful Q50!!!

I'm so glad that my indecisiveness and final decision for the Moonlight White has helped you narrow it down!! SOMETHING tells me that was sarcasm but I'm still taking credit! Haha

As for the Sports front fascia, when I saw it in person at the reveal a month ago, I HATED it! Just seemed too out of place on a luxury car. But the more I looked at the difference between the two, I started to feel that the Premium wasn't special enough. It's too similar to my current G37S. When I saw them in person side by side yesterday, I realized that the front of the Sports had grown on me and I really liked the second grill and fog lights, much better than the Premium. I felt the two Sports grills matched better than the two on the Premium. The Premium fog lights being chrome as well as the two grill just didn't seem as cohesive. But that's just my personal opinion/taste. Of course, if you read my lengthy review I also realized that I do like the Premium side view better than the Sports. I decided on the Sports because I like the front fascia, 19" tires, wheels, and suspension. By the time I added the 19" tires, leather and fascia, it was close enough just to go full Sports.

The seat seemed a little wider and more comfortable than my current Sports seat and this girl has junk in her trunk, her thighs and well her hips too! Oy! But since I'm short I may just fit the seats differently than a person of "average" height! :p

I think you can't go wrong with the Moonlight White!

Good luck and keep us posted as to what you end up ordering!! Thanks again for your service!!

But it's not nearly as pretty!!!

Do you mean leatherette?

Decent point to concider..... but every dollar counts. I think unless I can get VPP pricing and maybe lease loyalty - having both will probably put me out of my target budgeted monthly.

I'll look forward to you later then Aggie

They do offer discounts for military through VPP!

Check here:

Yea they definitely have vpp for active military

Take a look at the pics, the sport seats have a horizontal stripe pattern in the leather that is not on the regular seats. I think it makes the seats look cheaper.

Oh yeah!! I noticed that in the Sports yesterday. I agree, I do NOT like that look!!! Ahhhhh I didn't realize it was just on Sports. Lord have mercy!! Ugh

This is a breaking news update. Indecision 2014!

We interrupt this regularly scheduled program to update you on a story we have been following closely for the last few weeks. Reports have come in the Infiniti Chick has once again changed her mind on what Q50 she is going to buy. It seems she cannot decide on the interior now. Previously, there was major discussion on exterior colors. It is now being reported that the problems have move inside and there is a question of interior color and seat choices. As soon as we get further updates, we will be sure to break in to your regular programming and provide the latest news. Now, back to your program.

HYSTERICAL!!!! Oh that made me laugh!! Especially because I just came back to the forum after going to Cars.com and looking at the Premium seats!!! Ohhhhh my gosh! I am, as you so well captured, beside myself now with concern about my interior choices!! I want the 19" wheels and I THINK the Sports fascia but I hate those stupid lines in the leather seats. They look so less classy and instantly cheap. Don't want to lay $52K for a car that looks like it has cheap leather seats. The back seats look even worse than the front.

Ohhhhhh my gosh!!! What am I going to do now?!?!?

Thanks for the laugh...I needed it! :p

Not only that but it looks worse on the light leather.
Anyone have pics of the sport seats to show what exactly everyone is talking about? I am going with Premium, so does not make any difference to me, but just curious.
