So I had my first in-touch bug tonight. Map data wouldn't load (SD card error message).

I tried a bunch if things to see if I could bring it back. Nothing worked except turning the car off/on.

One of the things I tried was calling Infiniti Connection to see if they could download a destination to see of it would force the map to pop up.

Interestingly, they were unable to find the location of my car. They tried a few manual 'sends' of the info but that didn't work either. No nav map - IC unable to locate the vehicle.

This is important since one of the benefits if the IC is the emergency notification if there is an accident or air bags deployed, etc. So if you are driving around without your map showing on the screen and have an accident, you won't be able to rely on IC being able to locate your car.

My suggestion, if your map isn't showing up, pull over and restart your car so you have the emergency services available.

I don't have the update yet so I'm sure that will help but I thought people should know about this.

So what happens if the SD card is removed? Can IC find your car? Seems kind of silly if a car thief can just removed the SD car and enjoy me new Q50!!

Yeah, that is a bit odd. I hope that this is just a fluke and IC does not rely on the SD card to be in place in order to locate a vehicle. Should I get LoJack on the phone just-in-case?

It has nothing to do with the SD card. That is just one of the error messages that pops up when there is a massive lockup of the inTouch system. What you're describing is the same kind of lockups I used to get very frequently when using navigation. Luckily, after the update, and the fact that I haven't been using navigation has made it so I haven't gotten the lockups as often...but yes, pretty much all functionality to the inTouch and communication system is completely dead until you pull over, wait 20 minutes and turn the car back on.

So, what you're saying is that there's an important update for your car. You know about the update and have, so far, chosen not to have it done. But you wanted us all to know that there's a major "safety issue" we should all be concerned about.

People, go to your dealer and get your software updated.

Hi JKay - in the event of an emergency if Infiniti Connection needs to locate your location, they'll pick it up from the GPS signal that will always be available or so we hope. The fact that the map doesn't show is bug or goes black is a system bug issue not really a GPS issue...

Thanks for your usual dose of sarcasm (unnecessary as usual). I think you know my posts are meant to be helpful and contribute to the forum and some folks are experiencing issues after the update as well.

My point was not to cry wolf to anyone, and unfortunately, my update has not occurred yet as I have been recovering from a surgical procedure with significant complications. I just started driving my Q over the past few days despite owning it since the beginning of September.

A number of members live far away from a dealer (myself included) and it may not be easy to get to one as quickly as we would like.

As I mentioned, there have been a few reports of problems post update although much fewer than before.

My point was to make people aware so they can avoid a potential safety issue if they do have an issue with their nav - pre or post update.

As the previous post asks - Infiniti should be able to locate our car via the GPS but that is the point of my post. If people are relying on that information, it is incorrect.

Per the rep on IC they could not locate my car and THEY expressed to me that this would be an issue if there were an emergency.

If you don't like this thread - go post elsewhere. I was simply trying to assist members so they wouldn't make an assumption about Infiniti being able to locate their car in an emergency.

For example, someone goes on a 4 hour road trip. Nav issue comes up and they know where they are going so they don't bother pulling over to restart the car (if a soft reset doesn't work). Maybe they get into an accident and Infiniti can't locate their car to report the issue.

I'm just saying, if you get an error where the map disappears just be aware that it might impact your location ID so it may be worth pulling over and restarting the car.

If you don't like this thread, don't bother posting on it. Just move on. If a single person benefits from this info then I'm fine with that.

You don't get it though...When the system locks up, the telematics is down. Yes, the GPS will work, but without telematics, it won't transmit to anywhere.
