Yep. This kit was just not for me. It's a muffler delete with resonators. I have the stock OEM muffler back on. This kit sounded good when you rev it though.

I initially wanted the Revel axle back. I have Revel kit on my G and really like it. Adds a nice deep tone and cold start sounds excellent. The problem with Revel is there is literally not a single video on the kit online for the 3.0t. So I have no idea how it sounds.

So I played it safe and went with the OEM kit, but as I said it was not for me.....

Yes 100% stock. I tried the axle back as all I was looking for was sound. I wanted a deeper tone.

The thing about this kit is that Some may not like it on stock midpipes and y pipe as the stock resonator on the midpipes aren’t as good at reducing the unwanted drone frequency that come from installing this muffler. Now ever since I got the Nismo H-Pipe all of that drone is gone and the Helmholtz kit is perfect as it’s not annoyingly loud like a straight pipe anymore and it has a very exotic and beautiful tone thanks to the resonators that are by another manufacturer from Japan named Futaba who also makes exhausts for Honda, Toyota, Lexus instead of the normal calsonic. Manufacture that makes stock exhaust pipes for all Nissans. But it’s also due to the h-pipe configuration which has a much deeper note as well that helps.

Plus these Helmholtz resonators are the best mufflers on the market due the j-pipe resonator that helps eliminate excessive drone at low rpms.

Thanks for the input, the VR30 in my opinion stock does not sound great and is very quiet and even when modified does not sound "better" as drone or rasp always end up showing up. The G37 stock sounds a lot better and with a decent axle back can get a good tone. Funny enough the Red Sport does not even get a different muffler it's the same with different tips... Rasp and drone seem to be a Nissan V6 thing forever, from the factory you can never really hear it, but once modified it shows up and seems it can be very difficult to tame it on certain kits. I know they sell the Infiniti cat back kit which comes with a muffler, but the mid pipe is not resonated and did not seem that good.

I don't want to touch anything on the exhaust as the car is under warranty and don't want any issues which is why I went with the OEM option. This kit is made by MXP for Infiniti.

I have been looking at adding this exhaust set up. The clips on line sound good. What was it about this kit that you didn't like? Drone? Rasp? Too loud? Thanks

It is fairly loud on cold start. I did not like the drone it had at certain RPM ranges. It also had this resonance to it. My car is 100% stock.

If your looking for the kit, mine only has 5 days of minimal use lol.

Well, now you have me questioning it! I am fully stock also, was just looking for something with a deeper noise but nothing crazy.

Bro you have to use the gaskets that come with the mufflers which it look like you never did. If you don’t use them your gonna have an exhaust leak and that why it will sound like muffler delete because the axleback exhaust is not fully sealed and it’s leaking and your gonna have a bunch of droning as welll various other sounds that should be muffled.

You cannot use the stock metal gaskets that came with the car as those are not the right size and there to thin.

Probably the issue. The instructions that come with this kit literally say to reuse the original gaskets. Anyways does not matter as I don't have the kit on, next owner will have new gaskets.

yes those instructions are so wrong and its Infiniti fault for not ever correcting them. I have that piece of paper as well with those instructions and I laugh at it when I see it.

Yeah, the instructions have the incorrect torque spec for the flange nuts as well. They say 25 ft/lbs but it's actually 43 ft/lbs with OEM gaskets (which I did put new ones on when I had the original muffler put back on). I would assume it is also 43 ft/lbs for the graphite type in this kit. Also I do not get what they give you bolts...

The OEM midpipe has studs pressed into the flanges, I guess its if you want to knock the studs out or for use with aftermarket midpipe?

Of course the FSM always state to replace exhuast gaskets whenever it is disassembled, which is not wrong.

Yeah you can hammer those studs out and use those bolts that come with the kit. Those studs with graphite gaskets barely grab on to the nuts that thread on the bolts but it’s doable. But my point is that alot of people hate the drone and the way it sounds because they always use the stock gaskets and don’t know thats the reason why it doesn’t sound like what it should. But if you were to install the correct gaskets it get much quieter and Lois’s at the same time and sounds very beautiful.

Another thing is the Stock midpipes are so tiny and small in diameter and it’s sad. The older G’s had much bigger piping especially the Nismo h-pipe exhaust. I wish the piping diameter on our pipes was bigger but Infiniti really wants to keep these cars quite at first and then they release the helmholts to make things louder lmao.
