Is this service available to current Infiniti owners? This blows me away that Infiniti is offering this. This could be the best feature that comes with the Q50.

I have it but have never used it in 8 months. I can take care of things faster on my smartphone.

Folks, the introduction of the 2013 JX35 (err, QX60) in 2012, then the 2013 M37 (Q70) marked the first two Infiniti vehicles to have Infiniti Connection (IC) built into the car. All Infinitis starting in 2012 have included Infiniti Personal Assistant (IPA). To clear up the lingo, here's a layman's description of the difference.

Infiniti Personal Assistant - A concierge service you can access from various places - phone, internet, smartphone app, web. IPA comes with every new Infiniti for a period of 4 years.

Infiniti Connection - A telematics service built into new Infinitis. I've heard it referred to as "Onstar on steroids." IC can do lots of things - access your Google calendar to pull up the day's destinations, remotely lock and unlock your car, synchronize news feeds, receive destinations you send from Google maps or the IC web portal, etc. One of the most useful things it can do, however, is connect you to your IPA - from the car, not your cell phone. Once you connect to your IPA, they can also send destinations to the car. IC comes free with select new Infinitis for a period of 1 year. You can subscribe for subsequent years - there are two levels of the service and currently they are $179 and $129 per year, for a total of $309/yr to get what you'll get free the first year.

If you use IC and IPA, it is an awesome service. If you don't, well, you're missing out. Your IPA can help make dinner reservations, order flowers for your significant other, answer weird trivia questions, etc. But what they're really awesome at is finding stuff along your route. Then download those destinations to your car while you drive. Some good examples I've heard from people using IPA/IC:

Where's the nearest In n Out Burger? (good luck searching any POI database for "In n Out")
I'm supposed to meet a friend in Burlingame at a crepe restaurant, but I can't remember the name - can you help me find it?
Is there a decent kosher deli anywhere around here?
I need a new cable for my new iGizmo, who around here has it and how much does it cost? - IPA had one reserved in the client's name and waiting for them at Best Buy when they got there.
How big is the moon? This was posited by the kid in the back seat - got an awesome answer - worthy of putting down on homework.
Where's the cheapest gas station in the NEXT 30 miles? Yes, I know you can search for cheapest gas stations around with your smartphone, but it doesn't know your direction of travel, and it is a PITA to use while driving (and illegal in California for that matter). IPA even knew to ask if we were Costco members as that was the cheapest option - oh, and they asked whether we were after regular or premium fuel.

So here are a couple of first-hand examples of how I used Infiniti Personal Assistant this week. I had to drive to Reno to deliver a used car (I work at an Infiniti dealership).

About 20 minutes into the trip I realized I needed a cable to connect my iPhone to the car since it had an AUX in jack, but no tape deck or bluetooth. I called my IPA and asked him if he could find me a Fry's or Best Buy along my route that was really close to the freeway. He checked, gave me two options and texted me the address of the best one.

Second, I needed to find a Notary Public near the Reno airport, that would be open by 8:30am yesterday (I made the call to IPA on Monday). My IPA told me he'd call me back. Five minutes later, he called back. He had the name of a place, had called and spoken to them, and confirmed they'd be open and available for me first thing Tuesday morning. Plus, he informed me it would be $5/signature and then texted me their address. Now that's full service.

Finally, yesterday morning on my way to deliver the car, I wanted to find a gas station that also had a car wash so I could fill up and make the car look pretty right before delivery. IPA found what I needed.

Yeah they still haven't announced VPP pricing for the Q50. I doubt they will offer it for the first few months. Then again, I may not get to use it, I may be upgrading jobs soon.

Had a quote on an M37 a month ago, fully loaded, VPP knocked about 8k off the price.

Thanks for breaking it down and giving us some well needed detailed information. I would say it's nice of Infiniti to include this service for free with it's new cars, but they probably hid the price of this service in the MSRP of the new vehicles and really...they need to give the service for "free" just so it can actually be used, if people had to pay for it, I doubt many would add it on.

The idea behind the free trial is to get you hook or interested and when you get used to using those features people can actually justify paying for the services. I wouldn't run them down that fast. Just do a free trial first and then from there if it's not suitable for you then just forget it. I think there are some useful options especially when you could ask where certain places are. That would be one option i'd be using most when traveling.
