Making its world premiere earlier this year at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Infiniti brought its new Q50 luxury sports sedan to the Geneva Motor Show this week sporting an all-new diesel engine.

With the Q50 representing the next-generation G series of Infiniti sedans, this marks the first time a diesel has ever been offered in the G/Q. A 2.2-liter 4-cylinder, it makes 168 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, and is the result of a tie-up between the Nissan luxury division and Mercedes-Benz.

In addition to the new Q50 2.2d, Infiniti also had on display its Q50 Hybrid mating a 3.5-liter gasoline V6 to an electric motor for a total system output of 354 hp.

The beautifully designed new Q50 is part of Infiniti’s new naming structure as the brand continues in the early stages of a major global expansion, beyond the 50 countries its vehicles are currently available in.

Infiniti will soon unveil the Q60 (formerly the G37 Coupe), while the Q70 will replace the M models. In addition, all Infiniti crossovers will gain a QX nomenclature with the EX, FX, JX and QX becoming the EX50, EX60, EX70 and EX80.
