I know how all of you(especially Simpson) have been breathlessly been waiting for this, so here goes(Please don't get bored - there will be questions at the end).:D

I decided to take a road trip down to Biloxi to enter a couple of poker tournaments at the WSOP Circuit there. Obviously, it was a good time to give the Q50 its first real "shakedown" test. The thing that I'm happiest with is the main reason I bought the Q50: The mileage was great(I kept the cruise at 65, not wanting to push it, and not being in a hurry). When I got to Biloxi, I immediately filled up the tank. The car's gauge read 35.7 mpg, which I didn't think would be accurate. After the fill up, I got 34.3, which I consider great, especially since the car is still in the break-in period. Since Simpson says it isn't true unless there's a picture:

Car Vehicle Speedometer Auto part Gauge

Oh, and just for the heck of it, I decided to drive very slowly after I filled it up and reset the gauge, keeping it in EV mode, just to see what the gauge would say; this is what it will read(see picture in picture section)

I haven't filled up yet since I'm home, but the gauge now reads 35.9 mpg, so I assume the real mpg is around 34.5.

When I got to the Alabama portion of I-59, I thought the car was going to shake apart - it was like someone put the RFTs back on the car while I was it motion. The road was that bad. Things smoothed out after that. It took quite a while getting used to the nanny interventions. You just HAVE to signal a change in lanes if you don't want to be beeped at, and have the steering wheel fight you. However, I quickly realized the advantage of the lane assist: If I felt like stretching, I could do so safely. Using both hands to pick up a soda bottle, uncap it, drink, and put it back is now easy. If you need to write something down, it can be done much more safely now. That's also due to the Intelligent Cruise Control, which slows the car if there's a car in front. There were many times that I didn't realize right away that the car slowed, simply because of the car in front. The car quickly went back to its set speed when I moved to another lane. There is one instance when this is an annoyance: when the car in front of you is getting off the highway, the Q will slow down when it really doesn't need to. To me, the seat is comfortable. I've got an arthritic back, and it wasn't aggravated, even being in the car for such a long stretch. Some here have criticized the shortness of the armrest, and I can understand why. However, it wasn't a problem for me, mainly for the way I sit when I'm driving. So, over all, I'm very satisfied with the way the car drove, with one little nit-pick: The ride is stiffer than my previous G, and it's all because of the sport suspension - I'll just adjust.

Now, as far as the technology is concerned: I was almost home, having driven about 900 miles on the trip, thinking how I was going to report no freezes, and then it happened. I was listening to a CD, and all but two of the tracks had played. I happened to notice that, even though the current track was playing, the NUMBER of the track hadn't changed on the top screen. I then noticed that the word, "TRAFFIC" was missing, and the scale icon was blank. At the same time, the map was moving correctly. I also noticed that the time had not changed back to Eastern Time(I was going to report that I was happily surprised that the time got changed automatically when going from one time zone to another. Well it does, if the system hasn't frozen). I tried three soft reboots, but nothing worked. AND, every time I did the reboot, the radio started. ???? When I got home, I restarted the car after five minutes, and everything was normal again. Other than that episode, all was O.K. with the car's technology, except for one strange anomaly: At one point, my seat was getting warm, and I saw that the seat heater was on. I may have accidently touched it when seeking a radio station, but I don't remember doing that. I'm pleased with the Bose system, though I can understand that those who are very picky are not totally in love with it.

On the way home, I was unhappily reminded of one of the reasons that living in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and other places in the deep South is a pain: LOVEBUGS! The car was covered with them on the way home. For those who are not familiar with them, they are tiny black bugs that fly "in tandem," hence their name. Though billions upon billions have been killed over the years by the cars that hit them, they keep multiplying faster. They turn your car and windshield yellow(with black streaks), and if you don't get rid of them before they dry, you've got a BIG problem. After trying for well more than an hour this morning, working to get them off with bug and tar remover, I gave up and went to a car wash. I gave the employees a nice tip for getting them all. Since Simpson says it isn't true unless there's a picture, here's what I had left before I went to the car wash:(see picture in picture section)

In Biloxi, I stayed at the IP Hotel and Casino. Since Simpson says it isn't true unless there's a picture:
(see picture in picture section)

I bombed on one tourney, but finished 13th out of 159 in the other, which more than made up for the 1st one. Sorry Simpson, you'll have to take my word for it. The result is on line, so it you're THAT curious........

Now, if you've read this far, I'd appreciate some answers to the following:

1) I accidently got to a Sirius station when I tried to turn off the radio. I thought you had to sign up for Sirius, even though the first three months are free. Is that not true? And if it's automatically on the car, do they notify you before the free three months is over? I don't want it and will not pay for it.

2) And as far as Sirius is concerned, just for the heck of it, how do you know what station you've gotten to? Do you have to have them send you a station listing?

3) I have the personal mode set to "Standard-Quick," which I'm very comfortable with - and I haven't tried the heavy steering. Has anyone here compared the two, and if so, which feels better to you?

4) Before I "protect" the interior: Is there leather on the doors? They have two different materials, and the softer one seems like leather, but I'm not sure. Anyone here know for sure?

AND: Since Simpson says it's not true unless there's a picture, I'll be posting some on the Pictures area. And thanks for listening.:D

Oh, it seems like I'm not allowed to post more than one picture in a thread. Maybe someone here can let me know how to work around this.

Hi selzini. I enjoyed your review. Your comments about Intelligent Cruise Control resonated with me. Your rank of 13 out of 159 is very respectable.
Regarding Sirius... You will receive a letter from Sirius very soon. The letter will explain your current package (free for three months) and gives you payment options for continuing if you choose to do so. You'll also receive a channel listing.
Regarding Steering, I like Sport mode. My wife? Nahhhh...not so much! Happy trails, S!

I don't see any pics
I tried, I really did, but for some reason the forum won't allow me to post mor than one in this post. That's why I added the disclaimer to look at my picture post. Sorry about that - and if some administrator will tell me why the pictures won't work here, I'd appreciate it(I've had that trouble before).
