I bought a 2018 q50 luxe around august 2021. I got full down pipes, bov, ams heat exchanger, muffler delete and ecutek dyno tune making around 430 wheel 500 lb/ft tq. I have three maps my first map which is nothing, map 2 is the flame map and the third map is the pop/burble. One day i’m driving and my car randomly starts popping and burbling like crazy without me switching maps. Couple days later my engine light comes on , cylinder 6 misfire. I changed all my sparks, my 6th coil and still it’s misfiring. I took it to the dealer and my engine warranty was flagged from the recent owner (i think because my car was stock when i took it to them). I’m not sure what’s wrong with my car i’ve been driving it and it has a mild idle at a stop and smoke comes out of the exhaust at a stop( a good amount of smoke im assuming from the downpipes). The car does not accelerate as it should like no where near. And i’m kind of stuck on what to do and what’s causing this issue, the diagnosis from the dealer said it’s sludge but that wouldn’t cause a misfire and another mechanic said i need a new engine.

The variable valve timing on the exhaust is driven by engine oil, so sludge could cause incorrect cam phasing, which can cause a misfire.

From what you describe, I'm thinking the engine has serious mechanical issue. :(
i did do a flush and the car is fairly new , i changed the oil every 2000 miles after the tune. After the flush i thinn it helped a little for the most part but i just find it so hard to believe that sludge can do this to a car so early on.

Don't suppose your flame and pop/burble maps are the cause of your problems?

Youd be surprised man. We had an older couple come in with a 17 with only 33k on it and engine was sludged up. You couldnt even see the top of the cylinder head when looking through the oil fill neck and the oil pan was nasty. Infiniti reg flagged their vin too due to lack of oil changes even though they were doing them on time ever time through infiniti

i did not abuse the tune at all, im talking about like once every two weeks, and the flame map would **** the turbos and my turbos are perfectly fine

I don’t know why it showed up so late, j bought the car in August 2021 and we are in March 2023, how is that possible ?

Your maps can and do fry cats and O2 sensors in addition to damaging your engine and turbos. Perhaps the previous owner was negligent concerning oil changes and now you're paying the price.

Good luck. If your car is smoking, it isn't due to the downpipes. You likely have engine damage to some extent.

Are you saying the warranty was already flagged from the last owner? And then you did a bunch of stuff to the car and finished the job?

Find a good independent mechanic and find out what it's going to cost to fix the car -- not much else anyone can tell you at this point.

So you're saying there was documented proof of required oil changes and Infiniti voided the warranty anyway? If that's the case, I hope that owner lawyered up. Something about this story doesn't make sense unless that car was a rebuilt flood car or something like that.

Something tells me the real story was that this was the first time they brought their car in for an oil change, and it was a mess because 5+ years on the same oil.

Sounds like someone fuked around, and found out.

@OP sorry for your loss. Hope you had planned on replacing the engine when you decided on that burble tune.
