No Going Back Now... Z1 Turbos • Z1 LSD • CZP DS • Depo Racing 3” FDPs + AAM 3” CBE • Spool FX-180 + FlexFuel • & MORE!

I can’t wait for AMS’s Turbo Kit anymore. After kicking tires for a while and a sh!t load of research... I finally did it! I have placed multiple orders on a bunch of parts to hopefully end my quest for more power and to complete my build. My build will be on stock engine internals and stock tranny (depending on how my car performs on the street and at the drag strip, i might get Z1’s LSD in the future). I’m shooting for a safe (haha) 500 whp / 500 wtq give or take on 91 octane.

——————

PARTS ON ORDER:

•Pure Upgraded Turbos Stage 2
- Ordered directly from Pure Turbos’ website. They retain the OEM turbos’ housing but bore it out and have larger turbine + compressor wheels with upgraded seals. They’re built to order with their quoted lead time of 7 to 10 business days. Edit: Pure’s lead time turned out to actually be 20 business days.

Ordered from Concept Z Performance (CZP):
•CZP by PPE 2.5” Upper Downpipes
- Currently on back order, should receive them in about 3 weeks. Edit: I cancelled this order because there was no guarantee that I'd receive this on time - See 6/22/2020 Edits.
•AMS Low Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP) - Should receive this in 2 days.
AMS RA338 High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) - Should receive this in 5 days.
•AMS Auxiliary Intercooler Tank - Should receive this in a little over a week. Edit: I cancelled this order because it was "drop shipped" from AMS and it's been almost 2 weeks - See 6/22/2020 Edits.

——————

CURRENT ENGINE MODS:

•Specialty-Z EcuTek E-Tune
- At 19 psi on Shell 91 Octane and have ran this for the past few months.
•Add-W1 Oil Catch Can V3.3 - Got it directly from Add-W1 and have had it on my car for the past few months.
•Fast Intentions Resonated Touring 2.5” Catback Exhaust - Got it directly from FI and have had it on my car since 2017.

Bought from CZP and has been on my car for the past few months:
•Infiniti (AMS) Intakes
•HKS Resonated 2.5” Lower Downpipes
•AMS Heat Exchanger
•CZP Turbosmart Vee Port Pro Blowoff Valves

——————

As you can tell, CZP is my number 1 vendor since they don’t charge tax and are really responsive when it comes to inquiring and ordering parts.

I’m going to install the AMS Auxiliary Intercooler Tank myself as soon as it arrives next week.

Specialty Z is going to install the Pure Turbos, Z1 Upper Downpipes, and AMS HPFP + LPFP, Z1 Motor Mounts, and then dyno tune my car.

EcuTek Tune with the following maps:
•Max psi on VP Racing Q16 - Good for 550 to 575 whp ish, track only
•Max psi on 100 Octane
•20 psi (or max safe psi) on 91 octane
- Good for 500 whp / 500 wtq ish, will be daily driven
•Hot Weather
•Pops & Bangs

If all goes well and if I receive all of my parts on time, I can hopefully get my car into Specialty Z’s shop in about 5 weeks (mid July).

If AMS/Nostrum releases their injectors by then (highly doubt it), I may just add them into the mix too.

I’ll be buying out my lease. My car is currently at 77k miles, so it doesn’t have the factory powertrain warranty any more - this is sorta why I’ve decided to full send it 🏎 🚀

6/22/2020 EDITS:

Ordered from Z1 Motorsports

•Z1 2.5" Upper Downpipes
- They currently have this in stock, so I should receive them in a few days.
•Z1 Urethane Motor Mounts - They currently have this in stock, so I should receive them in a few days.

Ordered from an Infiniti Dealership's Ebay Store:
Infiniti (AMS) Auxiliary Intercooler Tank
- Should receive this in a few days.

I’ve decided to run Flex Fuel Ethanol on my car with the AMS Flex Fuel Kit. I’ve also enlisted RaceBox to remote tune my car for Flex Fuel Ethanol.

——————

8/1/2020 EDITS:

With this new found power on Flex Fuel Ethanol, my car has started to go sideways a few times at WOT, even in 3rd gear at 60 mph. And, I’ve been spinning and not winning off of the line at the drag strip lol.

So, I’ve placed an order on Z1’s LSD. Since I’ll be installing the LSD myself and will be working in that area, I also placed an order on CZP’s RWD Aluminum Driveshaft and Z1’s RWD Urethane Transmission Mount made for 370Z’s / G37’s. Currently there aren’t any official tranny mounts made for RWD Q50’s / Q60’s. Although the Z1 Tranny Mount isn’t specifically made for the Q50, there have been a few people that have used 370Z / G37 tranny mounts on their Q50’s / Q60’s. I’ll test this out on my car.

Since my car is currently at 79.5k miles with the factory motor and factory tranny, I’ve decided to bulletproof my car by building the motor and maybe building the tranny. Additionally, I’ve fallen down the slippery slope of the rabbit hole known as, “MO POWA BABEH!”

I’ve placed orders on the following parts to upgrade my current setup. I’m gonna sell my old parts to recoup some of what I’ve spent.

•3” AAM Resonated FDPs & 3” AAM Resonated CBE. AAM does not keep stock of their FDPs and CBEs for the VR30; they’re made-to-order with a 3-4 week lead time. And, AAM Competition doesn’t list their 3” CBE with resonators. So, since they have to fab their CBEs when customers put in an order anyways, I called them to request that they put in resonators at the mid-pipe section of their CBE; they fulfilled my custom request/order. To get the most out of my PS2 Turbos, opening up the exhaust with a full 3” turbo-back gives MO POWA BABEH!

•DeatschWerks 19S-00-1700-6 Injectors, Spool FX-180 HPFP, OEM Left-Side Fuel Rail 17522-5CA0A, OEM Right-Side Fuel Rail 17521-5CA0A. I’m gonna test out this new, relatively inexpensive (compared to AMS) injector option on full ethanol. More fuel for MO POWA BABEH!

I’m still working out the details of building my motor and maybe building my tranny. If I build the tranny, I’m going to use my builder’s recommended tranny builder (NOT Level 10). This, of course, will enable me to reliably run MO POWA BABEH!

WARNING TO ANYONE THAT’S THINKING ABOUT DOING BUSINESS WITH KRIS KUNETKA / K2 RACEKRAFT - DON’T!!! If you get Kris to work on your VR30, then you may end up with an improperly machined head and a major oil leak that’ll drain your oil at 1 quart for every 150 miles driven.

Terrible story but not surprising. There was too many red flags so long ago that were a warning. The fact you drove the car BACK to Chris the first time after leaving was a mistake. If it was taken care of elsewhere for the head gasket and refinishing I bet the timing covet leak wouldn't have happened. It could have take the whole motor out had you made a pull with 1 quart of oil left in the motor after that huge leak. At least it's a warning to others and you got to drive the car.
Biggest mistake in my automotive hobby career! Indeed, hopefully this thread and my threads in the FB Groups have gotten across to the whole VR30 Q50/Q60 community of Kris’s integrity and workmanship.

Blowing coolant out of the reservoir under load typically indicates a blown head gasket and he said he'd never seen that before?
Some Master Infiniti Tech he is!

It only took Kris about 3 months (from 5/20/2022 to 8/11/2022) to figure out that the cylinder heads were improperly machined, which resulted in failed head gaskets. His reasoning for figuring that out in that amount of time was that he wanted to run a bunch of other tests first (compression test, cylinder leak down test, combustion leak test, boroscoping the cylinders, etc.) before pulling my motor from my car to inspect the short block, decks for the head and block, head bolts, cylinder heads, and head gaskets.
I believe the location pointing above the oil cooler is where the upper oil pan and the block meet. I don't know of I missed it but did they ever replaced the AWD Upper oil pan that was mistakenly used by the RWD upper oil pan?
Wow man I’m sorry to hear that. The moment when you heard that your RWD upper oil pan was replaced with a AWD oil pan should’ve been a that’s enough moment

@DailyQ50 and @Geraldomi - The oil pan that’s currently on my RWD Q50RS is an AWD oil pan? Excuse my ignorance and lack of knowledge in being able to catch that if that actually is true. Did you guys determine that based on my photos OR based on Kris’s personal Q60 being an AWD (since Kris said that he used his personal Q60’s oil pan on my car) (I don’t know if Kris’s Q60 is a RWD or AWD - I never cared to look that up till now… … …).
Wow, so sorry to hear that you went through all of this @EngineeredQ50. That is quite the saga and Kris has pretty much sullied his own name for good. After this, no one will let him work on their car and rightly so.

I'm glad you got your car back but man, 2 1/2 years is a long time to be without it. Hopefully he will keep his word and pay the invoice so you can get your car back. If I recall, I think he worked at Austin Infiniti at one point.
Hopefully! Yeah, he was a “Master Infiniti Tech” at Austin Infiniti before he decided to become a con man.
I can see your engine builder pointing fingers to the machine shop and then it's just gonna result in you holding the bag unfortunately.

I also had one very terrible experience with an engine build and I was left holding the bag and I'm never gonna do that again.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around him installing your turbos on another car and having to remove them. He's certainly a Master of something...but modding cars isn't one of them.

From what I know of his car and what is documented online, his was an AWD. So if he used the upper oil pan from the same Q60 in this video then that could be contributing to the oil leaks. (Go to 1:11)

Each application needs to to have its own oil pan, reason being is that AWD cars have the driver’s side axle going through the oil pan into the front diff. And yes his Q60 is awd
@EngineeredQ50 Did Kris every give you an answer for why he let your build turn into such a sh!tshow? I hope he at least gave you that much. I mean I can't believe it took him over 2.5 years to get to where he was with the car. It would be one thing if he was waiting on you and parts, but that's definitely not the case here.

At any rate, I'm glad you have the car back. It can be fixed but he's pretty much ended his career building VR30's after this.

Lol. Not the first time Kris has used his customer’s parts on his own vehicle or his customers’ vehicles. K2 RaceKraft’s Chop Shop at its finest. Here’s Dylan Geri’s (another well-known built motor VR30 guy) experience with K2 RaceKraft’s Chop Shop (Dylan has publicly shared his story before, a while back, but reiterated it in my FB group thread that I recently made about my experience with Kris Kunetka):

Excuses upon excuses upon excuses.

1) Machine shop wait times.

2) Waiting for parts to arrive.

3) Excuses about Kris supposedly having a difficult time contacting DropBear to work on building my transmission, which resulted in Kris and I agreeing to get my transmission built by Pure Drivetrain Solutions (PDS) in lieu of DropBear.

4) Excuses about coordinating with and waiting for PDS to finish my built transmission, which Kris had never even contacted or worked with PDS to get my transmission built with them - I found out that Kris was lying about getting my transmission getting built only after I directly contacted Chris Miller (from PDS) - which is why I had to cancel getting my transmission built with Kris. Kris likely was going return my car to me with my OEM transmission (without getting any work done to it at all) and then charge me for a “built transmission” when my car got finished. The price of the built transmission ($7,100), Killer Chiller ($1,900), and ARP L19 head ($962) studs was, essentially, the 2nd half of the total cost of Kris’s services for my car. While Kris had my car, we had to cancel those 3 items - due to wait times and just general bullshit from Kris.

FYI - On 11/5/2020, I paid the 1st half of the total cost ($22,437) as a deposit in order for my car to get shipped from Sacramento CA to Kris’s shop in Austin TX, so then he could work on my car. Kris and I agreed that I would pay the 2nd half of the total cost after Kris finishes my car and when I would have picked up my car from Kris in Austin TX. But, of course, I never paid the 2nd half of the total cost (the 3 items mentioned above was never completed by Kris) when I went to pick up my car on 11/14/2022 from Kris. Here’s the Invoice for K2 RaceKraft’s services for my car:

Font Material property Screenshot Parallel Rectangle

Rectangle Font Material property Screenshot Parallel

I never received any refund nor compensation for all of the bullshit that Kris put me through. I asked for a full refund multiple times from Kris, but Kris wasn’t budging. Even a partial refund from Kris, but nope. And now, Kris is refusing to pay Overkill Performance for their recommended repairs for the oil leak that Kris has caused, even though on 11/16/2022 Kris verbally confirmed that he would be the one to pay an auto repair shop (in the Northern California area, Overkill Performance) AND on 1/12/2023 Kris confirmed with me through text message from his business cell phone number by stating: “yes sir, I am taking care of the bill from Overkill”.

Terrestrial plant Font Screenshot Darkness Natural material

There is no reason for why Kris is currently giving Overkill Performance and I any pushback for paying the $5,860.71 Invoice/Estimate (for Overkill Performance’s recommended repair for the oil leak that Kris has caused) besides Kris just plainly does not want to do so. Because if and when Overkill completes the recommended repairs for the oil leak, then Overkill Performance will be liable for the oil leak if any issues were to occur with the oil leak in the future, which, at that point means Kris would not be liable for the oil leak any more.

5) Him making mistakes and then taking weeks/months to fix them.

6) In December 2021 (after I blasted him on the FB groups and this forum), he told me that his father had cancer, so he had to spend as much time with his father as possible before he passed away in December 2022.

Those were his answers.

Kris actually had my car for about 2 years, from November 2020 to November 2022. I’ve had my car back since 11/14/2022 and as of today, 4/2/2023, approximately 4.5 months later, Kris has not resolved the oil leak issue (by paying for Overkill Performance’s recommended repair for the oil leak).

@EngineeredQ50
At any rate, I'm glad you have the car back. It can be fixed but he's pretty much ended his career building VR30's after this.
Yes, I’m glad I have my car back too.

Font Terrestrial plant Screenshot Technology Games

And, yup, that’s the goal of why I’m telling my story now - to end his VR30 building career and his shady K2 RaceKraft Chop Shop. I did not want to publicly do it like this, but Kris has left me with no other choice. I was patient with him and gave him plenty of chances AND time to make things right. He still can though…

Kris, pay the damn $5,860.71 Invoice/Estimate for Overkill Performance to repair the oil leak that you have caused on my car.

Yes, I’m glad I have my car back too.

Man, that is quite the tale and you gave him AMPLE opportunity to fix things and make you whole and make everything right. I mean on one hand, I feel for the guy if his father had cancer because that's no joke, but that's even assuming it's true. On the other hand, he committed to building your car and should have made every effort to do so.

The fact that he's uninstalling parts from customer cars and using them on his own car just tells you what kind of sh!tbag he his. No morals whatsoever.

If I was UpRev, I would evict him. There's a point where UpRev as a business begins to have their own name sullied for keeping associations with a sh!t stain like Kris. UpRev crossed that line a long time ago. Yeah I'd say his VR30 engine building days are over between yours and Dylan's unfortunate tales of woe. We'll just have to keep an eye out to see if he "rebrands" and starts trying to offer services again or to another car platform all together. These types of losers generally will run their brand into the ground and then they sheep dip and emerge as a new company. Gotta get rid of all those old creepy crawlers and creatures of the night from the old brand name.

It may not be a bad idea to register a domain and throw the story up there or just a place holder warning not to do business with him. Not that you should have to spend any additional cash after all you're out, but I hope he never builds another engine for a client ever.

One needs to be careful posting things like that or you could be sued for libel.
