Oil change

Hello

In the Q50,

is it a computer that calculate with different factor when you need to do an oil change or is it like every 4 000 miles ? On my g37X 2010 it was every 3750 miles. I think, compare to competition, it was due at a very low mileage

Every 6 months or 5,000 miles on Q50
i would change it the first 2500 miles just to get all the new metals out of its system or whatever, then i do it every 3000-5000 miles depending on how hard those miles were driven thats just me

Remember, the only oil you can use in the Q50 is synthetic. Even if you drive it hard, synthetics are rated at 5,000 miles - many manufacturers have extended oil changes to 7,500 miles.
I have had other Infinitis and always used Mobile 1 synthetic 5/30, changed oil/filter every 5k miles/6 months with zero issues. Q50 has the least maintenance of all the Infinitis.

There are four maintenance plans(Basic, Basic+Plus, Standard, and Premium). We were given the Basic, which covers only oil and filter changes and tire rotation. I'm quoting from the Basic Maintenance Agreement that was received as compensation for the long wait:

This plan pays for oil changes using regular(conventional petroleum-based) engine oil. Your Infiniti retailer may offer you semi-synthetic or full synthetic oil, or Genuine Infiniti ester oil, neither of which is covered by this service agreement, but is available for the additional cost of the alternative oil at the time of each oil change.

Either the synthetic isn't required, or our "free, two-year maintenance agreement" isn't free. OR, your dealer will use synthetic anyway, and not charge you for it. It will be interesting to see what eventually happens.
Yeah I know synthetic lasts longer I'm just anal about things like that lol
I just looked at the manual again, and admit I may have read the standards incorrectly.

I thought I had read somewhere that American Petroleum Institute Certified, Resource Conserving, oil was synthetic.

I can't find the source where I read that, so I will retract my earlier statement.

Having said that, I will only put synthetic in my vehicle.

You can get synthetic for so cheap nowadays anyways. I don't see the point in cheaping out.
Synthetic is not needed for these engines..

I was told by the service manager at my dealership that the Q50 comes with full synthetic from the factory, and that is what you have to use.

I asked my service manager, and she told me they will use the regular non-synthetic.

To the best of my knowledge.. completely inaccurate..
Even the owner's manual does not say anything about full synthetic being required to be used.
Any 5/30 will do.....but I prefer Mobile 1 synthetic have used for a long while in all my 7 Infinitis.

Okay, page 9-2 of the owner's manual states they recommend using genuine Nissan Ester Oil. Page 9-6 goes in to more details on engine oil, but other than using 5W30, there is no mention of using full synthetic.

Also, this little tidbit on engine oil during breakin period:

Your engine was filled with a high quality engine oil when it was built. You do not have to change the oil before the first recommended change interval.
It's the same engine as the g37. I wasn't using synthetic oil.

In canada due to severe condition (cold ), In the manual they said to change oil every 3500 miles

My point is i don't keep car for long time. Stealer charge a high price for synthetic and they don't say to extend the mileage between oil change.

Also i always go to the dealer for this to avoid problems and i don't wan't a stupid student does my oil change in a walmart.
About changing your oil before the first oil change interval, I heard apparently they use a special blend of oil for break in, so changing oil before that first interval might be bad.

That is what I was told as well. The manual states differently.

As I already wrote, I will only be using synthetic.
Even the owner's manual does not say anything about full synthetic being required to be used.
The shop manual makes no mention of it either. Personally I have only ever used Nissan Ester oil in VQ, but it is by no means required.

There has been some miscommunication (especially with the first few we sent out the door) as far as maintenance schedules on the Q50 (and for that matter all 2014 Infinitis). They are now recommending oil change and tire rotations at 5K.
