I thought it might be a good idea to consolidate and organize into a thread all vehicles with which members on here have had comparative acceleration tests* with the goal of making an semi-easy to reference source.

Members can list any vehicles that your Q50 has been faster than or slower than. Additionally, please state whether you are gas, hybrid, 2WD, or AWD if it is not already in your signature line. As members continue to conduct additional tests against untested vehicles or have different results against a vehicle that has already been tested, they can continue to add new results.

It would be a good idea for hybrid drivers to include the initial charge at the beginning of the test. I have started to pay attention to this, but have some unknowns from older tests.

The format I'm using below is brand, model, model year range/model number, initial charge, street start (SS) or rolling start (RS), outcome, relative difference.

*Street racing is illegal.

It's not hard to find someone who wants to play in the right conditions. I thought that was normal everywhere. Would have gotten to play with a Porsche 911 (996 Series) today. He was in the mood for sure, but conditions were not right.

Stage 1 2008 sti head to head until hitting 80 when I pulled on him.

M37 2011 won.

Stage 2 GTI he beat me off the line but took him at around 40.

2012 G37 won.

2011 or 12 M3 lost by about 2 car lengths

2013 bmw 335i won.

Tesla (unknown year or specs) won.

I was kind of mean to the Benz. I let him gain and gain on me and right when he was catching up I punched it and left him trailing behind.

wow , you beat a 335i with a gas model ? that puts a big smile on my face and gives me lots of confidence because over here in ny the q50 to 335 ratio is probably 1/10 lol.

I followed a 335i onto an interstate. He launched as he merged and went across 3 open lanes of traffic to the fast lane. I followed suit and had to let off or I would have run into him. No idea if he lifted before me or not, but I was definitely catching him until the point I let off, and I know he was into it at least up until the very end.

Coming from a Lexus gs300 I love the Q50s Hybrid power.

I equate the power to carrying a concealed weapon. It's an awesome feeling but know one needs to know about it.

Trust me, they were and it was a C5 Corvette, so obviously not the latest and greatest. Why would the guy in the Boxter get p**sed if he wasn't doing his best after 4 runs? There have also been other people here who have reported successful runs against an S4 and a 335i.


I didn't go through the trouble of being this meticulous in putting together this info for other members here and encourage them to submit their own experiences just to misrepresent to people on this forum.


You must not have much stock in the hybrid if you think it can't at least keep pace with a 335i!

If you want to start a crusade against unsafe driving, why don't you start with the huge numbers of drivers out there who regularly tailgate, cut people off, run red lights, and speed in school zones and residential areas. I would never do those things.


Or just wish ill will on me and every 50 year old, white collar man out there having fun with his Porsche that, incidentally, he didn't buy to spend his entire ownership going 70 mph or under in.


Better yet, why don't you lobby the government to require car manufacturers to electronically limit everyone's car to 150 hp and 85 mph top speed? Because I really see that happening.

Throw in texting and masturbating (or - do you remember that question by some idiot "how to stream video on q50 when driving?") while driving and that is a close to the full list I present when some gender indifferently looking ahole tells me that I drive too fast ... in NORMAL people's world "FAST" is NOT equal "UNSAFE"

But .. we live in USsA where people forgot how to speak without using euphemisms .. so I am just NOT listening anymore.


... and speaking of "one day police will catch up with you ..." - dude - one day police will catch up with EVERYONE if things progress the way the are now...

And do not forget - having a sign "Baby on board" does not make bad drivers better - it makes them more of the same ... aholes..

Seriously, how idiotic to think people buy fast cars and never enjoy them. Even my 68 year old aunt has had a little fun in her Lexus with others in fast cars. Maybe they should lock her up too.

*Since we're on the subject, I had been needing to update this. This was a lot of fun. I knew he'd be faster, but I wanted to see by how much. He could pull ahead, but never had the chance to create very much separation and I was at least entertaining enough for him to not lose interest in playing with me for about 12 miles until I ultimately had to exit for my destination.
