How responsive do you guys think the infinity touch screens will be ? Will it be "Apple" like or "Android" like? No offense to anyone. Has anyone interacted with them at all? Thanks.

Also, is leather not equipped in the base Q50 model? I saw some pictures on IG with regular cloth seats. Thanks!

On NY Autoshow 2013 touch screen was not working for me. Either car was in this mode or implementation not complete. As a software developer I don't think it will be finalized before June.

Yes! Standard has cloth. That's why base model cheaper than G37. You're getting less car. No magic here.

I have never seen an infiniti with cloth seats before. For the Q50 I would just get the premium to avoid it. I mean although it is a base but Infiniti represents luxury shouldn't it be a standard for leather seats by now if not why not just use synthetic leather for cost savings.

I believe the Infiniti G20 came with cloth seats and had optional leather seats. I know for a fact that the G35 and G37 only had leather seats.

It would be cool if Infiniti introduced a really cheap model Q50 without things you don't absolutely need, like leather seats. It could possibly make the Q50 even more competitive.

Is there a price for the leather seats option?

And I don't expect to see any huge changes in the touchscreen technology on the Q50. It will most likely be a standard offering. I haven't really heard anything said about them.

The Tesla S touchscreen, on the other hand.

According to the spec sheet, the base Q50 has only one major option, the $1,000 moonroof - leather seats are not available for it. The car doesn't even have heated seats. I guess the base model is for those who just want to look good. :)

On the other end of the scale, here's a quote from a Kelly Blue Book article about the Q50:

And for those who want even more of a good thing, Infiniti is preparing an ultra-spec version of the Q50 that reportedly will come with a turbocharged V6 set to crank out 550+ horsepower.

That will probably be of interest to more than a few people.;):D

That is basically a full sized iPad in a car.

I wonder when car manufacturers will start hiring cellphone operating system programers to write car info systems. Imagine if apple designed your navigation and controls.
I'm surprised car manufacturers haven't done that yet because their systems suck. If they took Android for example and just modified it slightly, it would be perfect in their cars.

I think they haven't yet because it would be such a huge contract. Plus if lets say Infiniti were to adopt Apple as their touch screen manufacturer then Infiniti would have to add a whole different division to their corporate set up to help with trouble shooting which would cost time and money. Also if Infiniti were to partner with Apple it could steer people away that do not like Apple products and are more Android oriented, like myself, but the same could be said if the rolls were reversed. In addition it would most likely be crazy expensive for the consumer who buys the car and has that option added on. Don't get me wrong, I like the idea, and I think that Audi has taken a really amazing step in integrating Google Maps into their navigation (and possibly BMW, not sure). But for the time being I think that will be the closest we get for now.

I don't think having apple or android in your car would steer the other way. I think either android or apple is way better than what OEM manufacturers come out with.

They should get android to help them develop the system but keep it a Infiniti system - just with Android backend. The Android OS is more free and open source vs Apple.

Apple would want to brand everything if they had to design a car system... Everything would be locked down and you would have to plug your car into iTunes :hahahhaha:

Lets not start this war. Lol. I agree, it would give people all the more reason to be hot or cold with cars. I would personally love an Apple developed infotainment system, but I am sure a lot of Droid people drive Infinitis.

I don't really like the idea of a phone company like Apple or Android implementing their OS into cars. I'd prefer car manufacturers to use their own closed systems. But maybe take some inspirations from the usability smartphones do offer.

Personally, I find touchscreens to be distracting since they lack tactile responses and you have to look away from the road to use them.

I would not like to have either of those operating systems in my car. Like you, I would rather have a purpose built OS running the electronics in my car.

I do have to disagree regarding the touchscreen, it is only distracting if you are trying to do something you shouldn't while driving. Besides, you can handle the important functions using the steering wheel mounted controls. I think they kept physical climate control buttons to address the tactile issue though.

Too bad most of the purpose built OS suck.

I'm not saying the system should be Android or Apple based. I just would like to see the system to have the same sort of usability as a smartphone. They could get Android or Apple to help design parts of the operating system to improve the usefulness.

I hear so many owners who have problems pairing their phones to the oem systems. If Apple and Android just worked with manufacturers more they wouldn't have this problem.

Imagine having a better touch screen and browser. Imagine multitasking functions on the touchscreen or mobile like apps.

Of course most of these functions would be disabled unless you are parked due to safety reasons.

I haven't an oem system that I like yet.

The systems dont have to say android or apple on it at all. It would seem like they have no affiliation. It would just be nice if the programmers looked to smartphones for inspiration and even asked for help if they don't have the ability to create a better system.

I am with you on the collaboration idea. Also, I think the thing that in-car systems are missing is frequent updates. Apple and Android based products get updated to increase function and usability. In-car systems seem to just get updates to address serious problems.

Maybe Infiniti should hire some ex Apple developers :p

Lots of companies already give out iPads to customers who buy brand new cars. The car manufacturers are already Apple bias.

I believe a majority of the market is still Apple based.

Android is constantly improving but they still have some way to go. My Android phone is still a bit buggy and slow at times. :(

Another thing Infiniti could do is create a Infiniti smartphone App, like what Mercedes did with their Mercedes Drive Kit Plus app for Apple. It integrates Infiniti functions into the iphone. It's for sale on the apple marketplace. Mercedes should do the same thing with Apple and Android.

it would be great if they can do that, an APP from the car maker with all the information we need.

even a smartphone application for the car that gives us some remote control over it. so say if we were at the office on a cold day and wanted to the car to warm up, we can do it at the comfort of our desk rather then going to the vehicle.

i know some aftermarket security systems work like this.

That seems to be even bigger than an ipad. For any other vehicle it might be overkill. Like that would never stick in the Q50 or any of the infiniti vehicles. That screen is way too big. I would imagine a screen that size would be a safety hazard because it would take the drivers attention away from the road on to the screen.
