Hi, anybody else have the clicking from the engine? I took my 2016 q50 red sport to the dealer and they said it's normal. The sound is the lifters and it's normal due to the red sport having direct port injectors, similar to a Diesel engine and similar to the noise of a Diesel engine. Any thoughts?

Wife's Red Sport does the same ****, but only upon cold start. Its fairly loud.

Once the car warms up to operating temps, its fairly quiet.

The only similarity to diesel is that they are direct injection and that alone does not make them click. Because they are direct injection the pressures are usually higher. That may be the reason for the clicking. Fuel injectors of any type can make clicking noises. Not uncommon.

Fuel injectors for direct injection are typically louder than the injectors for port injection. You will usually get more lifter noise when the engine is cold since the oil needs to circulate which will also reduce the noise.

That old 3.5L V6 that Lexus uses in all their cars also does the clicking. I used to own an IS 350 years ago and was also told the sound is normal.

It's normal at start up especially in very cold conditions... it's because of the fuel dump into the cylinders to help the car warm up. I was all over that noise with the dealer when I got the car.

its the same noise level from when i first turn the car on and when im driving for 30 minutes. when im at a drive through, you clearly hear the clicking, but it is a new car so a part of me doubts any engine issues?

Definitely have the ticking noise. Assume it is the DI as well.

Wow! You mean the Puritans didn't object to you driving such an immoral machine? And I'm surprised you were able to find any gas stations back then, as well as good paved roads.

Then I'd go to the dealer and make them let you take a few of the same Q50's like yours for a test drive to see if there all the same. That's what I did with regards to my first post. The sales person thought I was crazy... had them start about 5 of the Q50's on the lot to verify.

There's a clicking noise from the engine when you just press the start button twice, giving it power without actually turning it on. Anyone confirm?

Just upon start up, lasts maybe 20seconds or so, happens in cold temp start ups or even mild temps. Seems to be gone shortly thereafter and never hear of it after that. Fine by me.

Hey Guys!

Would you call it a ticking/clicking or rattling -at startup, most noticeable when colder out. I noticed my RS does it for about 20sec (sounds more like a rattling) then it goes away right at same time engine revs a bit more (does this on own). I found it strange since a '16 3.0t Sport (non Red) loaner I had didn't do this. So not sure what to make of this.

For those of you that own a '16 RS and live in colder climates, do you notice similar "rattling-like" sound during initial ~20sec of startup, and then goes away when engine bumps revs to ~1300rpm on its own? FWIW it has manufactured date of 02/16.

Thanks!

I have both. The ticking/clicking all the time and the 20msecond rattle upon startup. Glad someone else mentioned this, I keep forgetting to post about it!

My 16 RS does that for a few seconds at startup. Definitely more noticeable in the cold. And if I'm remote starting the car from close by, but still standing outside the car.
