Thanks all for the feedback!

Is this a year thing? I have a 2017 and I don't hear it unless I'm outside the car standing by the engine or at a drive through and the sound is bouncing off the wall and it's hardly noticeable.

@Truth -Would you say your '17 RedS doesn't make the "rattle-like" sound at startup? Mayhaps Infiniti tweaked something for the '17s? I'm curious to test drive one now hehe.

And should have clarified this is only heard if outside the car, inside is nice and quite enough that the sound doesn't carry through.

My 2017 3.0t Premium makes that tin rattle noise for about 10 - 15 seconds upon initial startup. The rattle stops when the engine idle RPM changes. The exhaust becomes more quiet at the same time. Only happens when the temp. gets down into the 30's. The car has to sit for several hours before another startup to make the rattle sound again. I assume the engine gets cold enough that it starts up in this "cold mode". If the ambient air temp. is warm, >40 degrees, I do not get the rattle sound. I have the injector clicking sound as well. It is noticeable from outside the car and is more loud than other fuel injected engines I've had. I was at the local Wendy's drive thru the other day and the clicking sound was ricocheting off the wall and sounded horrendous!

I have a constant clicking comin from the engine bay as well, very annoying. I was searching and found the Q60 forums members are talking about having an Accessory drive belt alignment issue. Infiniti issued a service bulletin, issued Feb. 3, 2017. ITB17-004 Accessory drive belt noisy. Any one have this issue?

I'm scheduled to go in to the dealer Friday, but my service advisor states there is not a service bulletin for the Q50

i took my car in to the dealer before for this, they told me it was the injectors ticking away and making that noise. they also told me that the engine runs similar to a diesel style engine thats why the diesel also has that constant clicking noise, some people say it has to do with the oil in the car and some say it doesnt. but from what ive read and seen, the ticking is "normal" with the red sports

most diesel engines have direct injection, just as our 3.0tt engines. Similar ticking can be heard and it's normal, unless another issue produces a similar sound coinciding with the 'normal' ticking noise.

I actually wondered about the cold start ticking and rattle that I always hear on my RedSport from the first day I bought her 2 months ago. I though I was low on oil and went checking for oil but was good. It definitely sounds like both cold lifter dry start and a dry chain tension. My car has both of those sounds even in mild temps now. Both noises go away once car starts. What I do hear then, is what I believe to be the exhaust valves open, then after a minute the car gets totally quiet.
Is that what that is?? Exhaust valves? Meaning on the exhaust itself.

There is the cold start programming which may be holding the exhaust valves open longer to light up the catalyst. Cold starts are noisy.

These are the compromises of the IC engine. In a few more years everyone will be going electric. No more noise. ?
