Auto industry ponders robot-car liability

Auto industry ponders robot-car liability - FT.com

“Who is liable when during partly or fully-autonomous driving the responsibility for what the car does is transferred from the driver to the car. Who is liable for the vehicle: is it the manufacturer, a neutral institution, or . . . [the part] supplier?” Mr Degenhart asked.

I don't think autonomous driving will change liability a whole lot from any other sort of system failure resulting in a crash like unintended acceleration. The car manufacturer would be liable for all property damage and injuries resulting from a failure of their equipment. If the failure was caused by a part made by a different manufacturer, that manufacturer would be liable to the car manufacturer.
