So I had to take my car for routine maintenance yesterday, which also just happened to be the Q50 reveal event last night. When I dropped my car off, they were preparing for the event so I asked the service rep if they actually had the Q50 for the reveal (the gal that I RSVP'd with said it wasn't going to be there).
Not only were there two Q50s but the service rep pointed out the door and said, "There is one right there!" I turned to look with confusion because he had pointed in the direction from which I just came. The only visible car was a silver, what I thought was a G37. To my surprise, it was indeed the Q50. I would not have even realized that I had passed the Q50 had he not pointed it out. Prior to getting in the loaner, I walked over to the Q50 and took a couple of pictures, trying not to get caught since it was supposed to be "hidden" from customers.
I must say that the Liquid Platinum silver color was a bit bland and definitely did not grab my attention. It was not a very pretty color of silver, in my opinion. The sides of the car are nice and I like the lines but my most surprising and disappointing realization is the front. I realize it is a sports sedan but with the new sportier, wide and "boxier" bumper it just lost a little of the cool curves that I so love about my G37. I absolutely adore the shape of the FX and felt the front of the G37 was a tiny bit similar. The Q50 front end now looks more like a car you'd take on a track than a luxury sedan. The black leather had white stitching, which I assume is only for the sports version, but it was a nice touch if you are getting the sports for the look of a sport sedan.
At the reveal they showcased the sports hybrid in Graphite Shadow. This was a much nicer shade of silver and looked more luxury than the Platinum but still wasn't my cup of tea. For some reason they did not have the touch screen monitors even on during the reveal at the time I was there. Which is a shame because as a gadget girl, I was really hoping to test out the speed and ability since I've read other reviews on here that mentioned the lag time. The interior on this one was the wheat/maple wood combination. I really like that combo, the wood looked really sharp. Unfortunately it is not a combo available for the Ruby exterior.
Don't get me wrong, it is still an awesome car and I will be purchasing it, but I will miss the roundness of my G37's front end. It is a shame that they don't offer more colors. My current G37S is a very cool blue/teal color that gets TONS of compliments. I'd get that color again in a heart beat. Sadly, not an option for the Q50. I would not get any available color other than the Ruby Red or Black Obsidian because I don't think the other colors available will really show off the beauty of the lines.
All in all, I agree with a few that mentioned a bit of a let down at reveal after all the hype and videos/pictures online but I really do think the color played a part in my disappointment. I am sure I'll grow to love and appreciate the front end in time. I just thought the curves on the G37 were more stylish and sophisticated compared to the more sporty Q50.
