I found this 2017 Q50S with 49k miles for 20k. it's 1 owner and I believe It was from Canada. I have a few concerns but other than that I don't see anything else wrong with it.

  • The engine bay has some Rust and not the cleanest looking
  • it's AWD but I live in Florida so no snow so don't really need the AWD
  • I prefer Gray color but I can live with black color

2017 Infinit Q50S

CarFax

Anyone know Why "S" badge is white instead of red on this car?
Is there any reason why I shouldn't buy this car?

Thanks in Advance.

Since it has no remaining Infiniti warranty, will the dealer provide some sort of warranty?

Nice looking Q50. The rust you are calling out in the engine bay is just some of the fastners in the front having corrosion on them. My car has the same. Replace the fasteners and you're good to go. Depending on when that car went into service may still have time left on the powertrain warranty. However, will US Infiniti honor the warranty on a Canadian delivered car? I would contact Infiniti to confirm.

I just added the Carfax link. Yeah it still has 5 months of powertrain warranty left.

I would definitely get a warranty. Listen for turbos around 3K RPM. If you can hear a whine, the seals are already worn.

Using the VIN, get the actual "In Service Date" from Infiniti. It might be much earlier than the Carfax indicates.

looks like everyone is worry about out of warranty and turbo issue. I thought turbo issues are not that serious but I just saw the thread with full of turbo issues replaced under warranty. Should I just look for 2015 3.7 then? What is the cost to replace both turbo out of warranty?

I bought my 2017 knowing about potential future turbo problems. I checked the records for it and it had oil changes at the proper intervals. It still developed a whistle a year after I got it. Now, those turbos probably would have lasted for 20 or 30K more miles. But I made sure they were covered under the warranty while I still had it. The Infiniti cost to replace both of them would have have been over $7500. I had a 2007 G35 before my Q50. That engine is similar to the 3.7. I much prefer the 3.0T over the previous V6.

So is that mean there is a $7500 time bomb that can blow up at anytime? Are those turbos fail multiple time after the first warranty work? I want to keep the car for over 100k miles.

...Anyone know Why "S" badge is white instead of red on this car?...
The regular Sport trim (2016+) had the silver "S" on the trunk and none on the front fender next to the "3.0t"...Only the Red Sport has the red "S" in the rear, as well as the fender next to "3.0t"...least until ~2020 when Nissan decided to no longer have anything on the fenders.

Up until 2015 though, the Sport had a red "S" only on the rear decklid area...the hybrid Sport had a blue "S" and believe that carried over 2016 on until they stopped making them.

It must have sat on the dealer's lot for a while before it sold if it's a 2017 and first sold on 9/6/2017. My 2018 was manufactured in June, 2017 and I bought it on 9/27/2017.

Reading thru many stories of turbo replacement with many covered by warranty and some not covered, the $7500 ticking time bomb is an excellent look into your future, BUT-the 7500 IS EXTREMELY CONSERVATIVE! LIKE you are related to a master mechanic or married to a dealership owner CONSERVATIVE,,engine removal, labor costs of thousands, etc,,sanity and prudence indicates warranty for an event that has a somewhat inevitable likelihood. Imo.

Don't buy a Canadian car. Buy a southern car, preferably a southwestern car if you can help it. It's just a fact that those regions typically have easier lives in regards to weather.

If you buy a 3.0t, expect to replace the turbos eventually, warranty period or not. All turbos fail. They should last longer but that's just not the case.

Purchase an extended warranty if you want to keep the car long term. There was a thread recently about extended warranties vs just saving the money on your own. The fact is that a warranty will pay for itself several times over the second the turbos fail.

The upside to a 3.0t is that they're better daily drives than the 3.7 in 4,000lb car. You don't have to rev the wee out of it just to get going and it gets a little better mpg doing it. If it matters, the 3.0t is slightly faster, all else equal. That's a source of contention but I've not seen any 3.7s hitting 13.30s in the 1/4 when stock. 2017 Infiniti Q50 3.0t 1/4 mile

100% correct, the trade off for super reliability is no turbo thrust, that's why the throttle controller makes such a big difference,,daily driving experience..without it,my Q is a super safety luxury car with 1 important facet missing, looks like a sleek baddass rocket 🚀 but when you step on the accelerator/where's the beef"
