Howdy!

I am planning on having my Q50 by December and just in time for the great snow we should get up in Canadaland.

I know if I went with the dealer and had them get me snow shoes for my Q50 it would be pretty outrageous. My idea was to possibly go down a size or two from the 19's that will come with it.

Does anyone know what sizing for both tyre and rim are for the smaller sizes? I usually use Discount Tire but their site does not have our car listed yet so I can not get accurate numbers.

I assume there is no 18" option so I am hoping there is a 17" package that would fit on a Hybrid Premium AWD. Could anyone help?

Thanks!!

There's already a couple of threads on here about winter / snow tires. If I were you, I'd consider going with a package that more or less matches the size of the stock 17" wheel/tire. 225/55 R17. I think it is a 7.5" rim. I'd rather have the extra meat on the sidewall of a 17", rather than 18" or 19" wheel - I've slid into a curb and ruined a wheel in snow before.

Some people argue for a narrower tire for snow, although I've found that snow tires work great on wider tires too. I've been running pretty wide ones on my SUV's for years to great effect.

Don't let my location fool you. I spend every single weekend all winter in Tahoe. Plus I grew up in NH using snow tires all the time.

Johnkey, I'd expect that this winter you'll be fine. Tires are new so lots of tread. Snows would be better, but probably not necessary. My thinking re: putting on snows is that my car will be a lease and therefore I'm going to a) need to return it with RFT's, b) probably burn through a set during the life of the lease and c) really need the added traction at times during the winter in Tahoe.

CheekEman, I'm in Edmonton and I'm waiting for the call from KalTire this coming week to get my snow tire/wheel package installed. From your message, I believe you are getting a Q50S since you mentioned the 19" wheels. Be aware that the Q50S comes with the "big brakes", which require more clearance behind the wheel than the 17" wheel/"small brakes" that come with the Premium model. The 17" winter rims I had on my '09 G37xS were laughably too small to fit on the new Q. Like you, I wanted a -1 fitment with 18" rims but most vendors, on-line and otherwise, had no fitment guides for our new model and were reluctant to sell anything other than the horribly expensive 19" wheel/snow tire package. I know 18" rims will fit since my dealer is selling such a package for the Q50 (albeit at a grossly inflated price). I am getting Core Racing "KOBE" rims (18 x 8, 114.3 x 5, 40 mm offset) with Hakka R2 snow tires (245/45-18). This package preserves identically the diameter of the stock wheel/tire package and thus my speedometer/odometer readings and ride height. I will update this message with pics after installation, hopefully this week!

Further to my last message, the winter wheels/tires went on today! Ready for the forecast 5-10cm of snow Sunday night. No clearance issues but there is just BARELY room behind the spokes to clear the front caliper assembly. Ride is MUCH improved...less springy feeling and less impact harshness. Nice, sharp turn in with the Hakka R2's. I can detect a slight, lower-pitched whine from the tread, however. Overall, a nice compromise for winter. The tire shop was unable to install Schrader's EZ TPMS sensors, which are about half the cost of the Infiniti part. They checked with the supplier and apparently, EZ is working with Infiniti to develop programing for EZ's sensors. I was told to anticipate an update in 6 months. As a Q50 owner, I am used to waiting for updates so this is not distressing. The little yellow tire symbol now glows unobtrusively on the the dial. I will soon no longer notice it and yes, I have the spare tire package just in case!

Looks good, you wont be disappointed with the Hakks!
I have to get mine on order this week! I still think I am going with the 19" on the factory alloys, and looking at the Enkei Raijin rims to put the run flats on. I might be taking the car south over Christmas so I will need something that can take the heat.
