Speckled Glass

Here is Arizona we have an issue with sand pitted windshields. If you happen to be driving into a big haboob (dust storm) on the freeway, chances are your windshield is going to have thousands of pits in the glass. You usually only seem them when driving into the sun.

I drove my new Q50 into the sun last week and saw what looked like thousands of sand pits in the windshield. I went to the dealer yesterday to discuss since I don't want a brand new car with a pitted windshield. One of the service guys took me out a new QX60 that was facing into the afternoon sun. Viola it has the same pitted look in the windshield. Then he showed me the side windows and they were also had the same pitted look. Then he had me look carefully at my tinted side windows they too had the look.

Turns out for the past couple of years this has been par for the course for all Infiniti glass. There is some type of crystallization in the glass that mimics the look of sand pitted glass. I for one do not like this change in glass. Anyone else notice this, or am I sensitive to the issue since we do get sand pitted windshields?

This is my 6th Infiniti, and I've never seen anything like what you are describing. If I clean the windows, they are crystal clear under all conditions.
It could be the anti shatter film between two glass layers could be the cause on your car. Some times you may see tiny spots after you get the glass tinted.

I live in Colorado and have noticed the same thing. I haven't had any kind of damage to my windows or went through any kind of sand storm. Even when i clean my windows the same appearance happens. I will take a look when i go into the dealer and see if i can notice anything like this in any of those vehicles.

This too is my 6th Infiniti and I have never seen this issue. Service manager told me it started with some models in 2012 and it is an issue with all models now. My 2012 G does not have the problem.

I live in AZ, there isn't a car on a Infiniti lot that doesn't come with tint and it has never been a problem. Its not a tint issue since its on the windshield. I was told that once non-OEM windshields come out for the Q50 in about a year I'll be able to get glass without the problem. Of course that opens up a whole new set of problems. A car is never the same once you replace the windshield.
I have a Lexus SC400 and even the glass on it is like this. It's also the vehicles original windshield, neither it or any glass on the car has been replaced. It just might be something natural with the glass.
