Welcome Lighting

Can someone please to explain this to me ... with the welcome lighting option, does it light up the ground LEDs when you click to unlock or when you simply approach the vehicle (without touching anything).

I wasn't able to get a clear answer on this and between the infiniti website and what various sales guys have said, I can't find a straight answer on this. I just picked up my Q50 yesterday without this option... but since it's a port option, I can get this installed at the dealer.

Thanks!

@nadir... I understand your confusion, the website makes it appear that the Welcome Lighting option comes on automatically. I have the option and thought the same thing, but the service tech at my dealership cleared it up. It only works with the key fob as explained by others.

Yeah, I thought it would come on automagically and I was dead set on finding that as an option... was very disappointed to hear the truth! It's 400 installed at the dealer; after I get my car tinted, I might get it added on still.

Its a cool effect. There always lots of 'ooh's and ahh's' in a parking lot (if you like that sort of attention).
I saw a commercial where the headlights came on when unlocking with key fob. Is that true? or just for television?

Headlights do come on when unlocking the car via key fob or just touching the door handle. I'm sure it's an option that can be turned off if you wanted to.

Only the DRL's come in when you unlock via the keyfob. In the commercial, the headlights come on and do their self-test swivel. This does not happen in the real Q50 until you start the car.
Nadir, No guarantees, but I suspect I could get the tech who installs it to wire it up so that they come on when the lights in the door handles come on.

FYI, the biggest part of the cost is the labor. They have to drill 4 holes, then wire it up under the door-sill finishers, and make it all sealed and clean.

Awesome - thanks, Randy! I'll get in touch with you about that then.
WELL.............if anyone is interested in getting the Welcome Lighting, I highly suggest that you do so when you order/purchase your car. I just inquired about having it added to my Q50 and due to the extensive wiring/labor, the $225 cost at time of purchase jumped to $795!! Umm no thank you!

It requires drilling 4 holes in the car, I doubt she is going to take the plunge!!!
I plan to get the welcome lighting installed @ Sinecure's dealership ... drilling that car is just beyond me (and i've drilled/hacked pieces off my Maxima to install JDM headlights before).

I ordered a bunch of LED bulbs to swap out the few minor remaining incandescent bulbs inside the car.
Some options are better if installed at the factory, port installed options are easier to install afterwards, I chose to have following added at pre-order and were installed at the factory because these will be covered by Infiniti warranty.
Appearance Package (Spoiler & Grill) INFINITI WELCOME LIGHTING
INTERIOR AMBIENT LIGHTING
ILLUMINATED KICK PLATES

Cargo Package

The only installable options left are splash guards (have not decided if I want all 4 installed or just the rears ), moon roof wind deflector- which I have not decided if I want them on the car yet.
