What is "MOD?"

Today, when I put the car in reverse, I noticed the letters "MOD" on both the rear view and the around view screens. I have never noticed that before. Does anyone know what it means, and has it been there the whole time, and I just didn't notice it?

Moving Object Detection - it's when the car detects things approaching the car when you back out of a parking spot, for example. It's been there all along, most likely. You can turn it off, but I wonder why you would want to.

Thanks - that shows you how observant I am.
MOD may not be active when you first start the car. I think it is one of the things that loads in a certain sequence.

It is part of the deluxe touring package on gassers and deluxe tech in hybrids. It goes hand in hand with the around view monitor.

Of note, I noticed that it picks up moving shadows as motion (our giant flag waves proudly).

Sinecure, thanks for noting that the MOD observes shadow movement and indicates to the user that there is motion nearby. I noticed the same thing last week and passed it off as happenstance. Nice catch, Sinecure!
I never noticed this MOD when I put mine in reverse. It's an option to turn on and off in the inTouch?
Yes, it can be turned on and off. Check under driver aids in the InTouch menu.

Also, MOD takes a while to load in first start up, so that may be why you never noticed it.
Hmm probably. Thanks Gandhi. I'll take a look at that when I get my car back sometime this week. I really want to invest in a remote starter so the car could be fully loaded and operational by the time I'm ready to drive.
Not to beat this to death, but should the letters, MOD, appear if nothing is moving? Since I've noticed it, it always appears, even as the car is sitting in the garage, before I move.
It means MOD is active and working as designed. If it detects movement, there is a beep and (if I remember correctly) the MOD sign flashes.

It will actually slam on the brakes if you are about to hit something. It's happened several times when I back into my garage.
Same here when backing up my inclined driveway.

I was actually thinking about when the car is in park and stationary. What you are talking about is actually the Backup Collision Intervention at work.
the car is telling you to buy it a MOD
