Thanks for your advice re: Llumar. Today we're installing Llumar FormulaOne Pinnacle series nano-ceramic film at 35%. It features heat & UV rejection without interference with radio frequency technology. Would have loved to install clear film on the windshield for heat rejection but that's illegal here. We're also pursuing a Clear Bra installation but will have to return later this week to install the last piece because the two patterns they downloaded for their film cutting machine were not a perfect fit, and the guys at Tint King demand perfection.

Clear film on the windshield isn't very illegal. Many shops will do it if you shop around. Since it doesn't affect light transmission it doesn't fit under the tint category but some shops play it safe by rejecting it.

This thread reminded me to look up what I had done to my G 6 1/2 years ago. I knew that LLumar sounded familiar.:D Unfortunately, my receipt doesn't state what degree of film was put on, but it was Pinnacle. I've never had a problem with the tint - no fading, bubbling, etc. The cost was $215 (plus tax), and I'll have to find out what he would charge today. I think my dealer told me it would be around $350 if I went through them(they use the same installer).

Clear Bra (a.k.a. 3M VentureShield Paint Protection Film) urethane film was applied to the front end, the mirrors, half way up the hood, both rocker panels, and the top of the rear bumper (top flat surface immediately underneath the trunk lid). The installer, an expert with almost a decade of experience with film application, said he had the most challenging experience yet in his career as he applied the single front piece which is cut to cover most of the front end. He did a masterful job. As a result of the hours spent to achieve perfection the price for clear bra application for the Q50 in this Boston shop just went up a wee tad.
The only seam visible during extremely close examination is the seam across the front hood which is only visible when viewing it at a 90 degree angle (I.e., stand perpendicular to the car and you can make out e seam on the front hood).
We stuck with legal tint and we didn't opt for the clear material for the front windshield. Given the Li battery and that it's performance is heat labile, I may pursue it in the future.
Next in line: considering tinting the rear brake lamps, considering Vossen CV1s, and very interested in engine performance enhancement. But not quite yet! 300 miles on the clock...

Ive recently talked to a tint shop and was quoted $425! Is this a fair price? I can also mix and match the Air Blue 80 and the pinnacle series!

That's a decent price for Pinnacle tint. I just had 3M put on, looks nice. I went with 30%, not too dark, not too light.

So I have an offer to do Suntek CXP (Carbon XP) on 5 windows for $149. Have always bought cars with dealer tints on them. It would be a gamble that I would need it but I could always us it on 3 windows with my truck, if I needed. Anyone familiar with the Suntek tint line and is that a reasonable price for 5 tints? (course I know if the shop is good it probably is and if they are awful its just throwing money out the door but thanks for your feedback)

Just for reference sake they are at $299 regular for their service.

Has anyone put a clear tint on their windshield yet? I was told because of the cameras and sensors on the window that putting clear tint on the front window proves difficult. Can anyone attest to that or disprove it?

I should know the answer today. I installed Llumar CTX this past weekend and I was going to install Air Blue 80 in the windshield, but the guy was concern about possible intereference with the sensors. He told me he would call Llumar to verify.

I will keep you guys posted.

I've made an appointment to get tint, this Saturday, at Absolute Perfection, in Sykesville, MD

I'm thinking about Pinnacle at 15% on the rear (have backup camera), 30% on the sides, 5% on the sunroof.

What say you all?
