On a car like the Infiniti Q50 what would be the ideal winter tire size to go with? Which winter tire brands and models would you recommend?

To my best guess 17's on some thick 45 series tires will work well, nothing too wide as we'll want it to cut through snow.

Bridgestone Blizzak's are the best bang for your buck winter tire.
hii,
According to me winter tyre is used when a person continues uses the car in snow or ice, if you drive your car for a long period then go for Bridgestone Blizzak's tyre are the best. :D

I had Blizzak's on my old Accord and loved them. I don't have them on my 2009 M35x but am considering them for my new Q50 even I'm getting AWD. Blizzak's give you SO much more confidence driving on snow and ice.
blizzaks are a pretty popular choice for winter tires. +1

Winter tire

Depending on your climate you may choose between a snow tire or an ice tire. Blizzak are coming in the 2 variety.
Canadian winters can be brutal and I highly favor the Nokian Hakkapeliitta winter tires. My subaru with these tires can make a mockery out of almost anything on the road, on a heavy snowy/icy day, and I will be putting these on the Q50.
Besides, they were developed in Finland where they are pretty good at 2 things, Driving on snow and ice for most of the year, and developing world class rally drivers. :)
General Altimax Arctics

I'm a big fan of these Generals. I've used them on my G37xS the last 3 winters in Edmonton. The last winter was particularly brutal with a blizzard in November followed by a prolonged, deep cold spell that lasted into January. The wear has been minimal. I would rank them above the Hankook 409 iPikes I had on my previous car, a v6, 6mt Accord, for both wear and traction. I hope to find an 18" rim that will fit the Q50S AWD and go with a 245/45R18 snow tire to maintain a 26.7" overall diameter, but with a little more cushioning in the taller sidewall.
