Z1 Motorsports limited slip differential

Im referring to the complete drop in unit, not just the gears, adding the brace. Has anybody put this on? How is it doing? Seems like one of the first common sense upgrades to a RWD vehicle to maximize the engine and drivetrain on a RWD Q...regardless of horsepower...from stock 300 to tuned whatever.

In terms of the brace, i watched the video and have a basic understanding of physics, but dont see much difference in the video. I assume we're taking 'twist' of the unit out of the equation. How necessary is it, if at all?

I figure, basically, in terms of most upgrades (i have a post on cooling) might as well have it all done while in there, kind of thing. Especially on the diff brace. Not too expensive and less labor to bolt it on while they're working on it. May not help much, but wont hurt.

What say the experts?

I'll let the LSD folks chime in but don't underestimate the value proposition of the Traction Concepts solution. It definitely gets my (y).

My Traction Concepts is still going strong as it's my DD. Still no noises, still doing this:

My only concern with lunchbox lockers is the long term reliability of spider gears that aren't wear hardened at the friction surfaces and the resulting metal fragments. I do think the latter is probably not as much an issue as my mind thinks it will be.

Either of you guys that have TC locker, how's the engagement in on throttle cornering?
2 wheel slides at moderate throttle if desired, but no issues in turns or slow speed parking lot maneuvering.

Has anyone installed this with an AWD Q? Looks like a great product especially for the price.
Loving the Quaife LSD... corner exits on the power makes my Q into a 🚀

Another happy traction concepts LSD customer here . It does very well and saves a bit of money especially if you can do the install yourself. Plus the folks at traction concepts are awesome!

whether you're AWD or RWD it functions the same.

There was talk in the longer thread about this product that is beyond me talking about the ratio changes so you would have to change both the front and rear differentials. I think it was our Super Moderator who brought it up. I will take another look later. I have a Red Sport and that person had a Silver Sport which I think comes with a different final gear ratio so maybe that was the point he was making.

Adding an LSD doesn't change your ratios. People have talked about changing from a nonRS gear to an RS which does change your ratio but that's completely different.

So, most of you all who've installed the LSD, are you still happy with the mod...and how has the reliability been thus far?

The Low cost LSD has been great. Zero issues, daily driven, and used drag radials.

Wavetrac LSD still doing great! A huge difference in control over the stock open diff.

Thanks guys...this will likely be one of the first (major) mods I make.
I have the Z1 drop in LSD; no issues so far.
Turning a corner and giving it gas is a lot more predictable now; and launching the car at a dead stop is much better I had to warm up the tires a little though.
Installation: My mechanic said it was very straight forward and a very easy process as it was a simple drop in so the labor cost was cheaper.

The honest truth now that it's been a few years:
I've had it installed since 2021 I honestly haven't noticed much of a difference anymore
I don't street race and I don't track the car although on some occasions i do drive for "fun"
There really isn't much of a difference in normal daily drive; The biggest difference is I don't spin as much at a stop light and when the tires are warmed up I don't nearly spin as much but it might just be my lack of skill of knowing how to properly launch.

If you're really looking into an LSD, because you want to launch better/harder the next best solution would have been just getting the AWD model
If you want to do doughnuts or drift then yes the Z1 LSD will allow you to do that, I can't drift the best thing; I've done was powerslide through a corner and the LSD has allowed me to feel more comfortable doing so.

I hope this helps.

In my brief assimilation with the car...I'm noticing that the rear end is fairly lazy at times with rotating. I have a lot of long, sweeping bends around my way...I was at 100mph+ the other day and the car just felt like it wanted to push out, instead of rotating around. Sure, I need to take in account for the mass up front, but the car just didn't feel like the rotation I remembered in my (long departed) RWD G37 coupe.

The other times, it's quite snappy from a dig or mildly accelerating out of tight turns...with its loose booty😟. So, along with plans to upgrade to better tires...I also remembered that the Q-cars are open-diff; just thinking an LSD will help with this.

It launches fine on my end, it just spins at times maybe I'm applying way too much gas at a dead stop.
One of my locals here has a Supra and I can't for the life of me get him at the jump; I only got him like once or twice
Granted he's much lighter and the ZF8 outclasses our tranny.

My friend has an AWD RS, and consistently beats him from light to light we never really tried anything more than that.
Those new Supras are no joke and def a hell of a car, I'm sure the Z will be a great competitor to it.

As far as rotating, I never actually tried consistently getting the car to rotate, I just turn off traction control at times and when I know it's safe I'll pull into a corner and give it some more gas and it slides nicely before I needed to correct.
I haven't done any of that fun stuff lately though I just drive the car to the office and around town now; gas has gotten a little more expensive and tires have become much more expensive now (Continental Extreme Contact Sport)
