Hi everyone. When I connect my iPod through USB, it automatically recognizes it and plays it no problem. However, when I connect my Android phone through USB, although it charges it, the car tells me that there is nothing connected through USB. What can I do about this?
Yes, there is a way! I hadn't tried it before today but I just went out to the car with my Galaxy S4 and experimented a bit.

First off, a bit of background.. the iPod is a music player so logically connecting it via USB should (and does) play music by default. The android phone is a phone first but you should be able to get the car to see it as a music storage device; and you can!

My phone running a custom OS so it'll likely be different for you so you'll have to hunt around. I did the following:

1. Connect the phone to the car (this needs to be done before step 3 will work)
2. Go to System settings -> Storage
3. Hit the "..." button in the upper right, press the "USB computer connection" button. If you don't have the "..." button, try the menu soft button below your screen
4. You likely have the "Media device (MTP)" checkbox selected. Select the "Mass Storage (UMS)" checkbox instead. That allows the Q50 to see the phone as a USB flash drive.

At that point the Q50 should recognize the device and start reading the music info. I also got the prompt at that point asking me if I wanted to populate the voice recognition database for this device. A second or two later music started playing. I was able to pull up an album list and soon after the artist list became available, etc.

In short, it works.
